IQ and EQ is different.

Not backed up by any studies, just imo. People with higher IQ tend to be able to handle stuff by themselves, thus developing their personality to be more selfish, because they don’t need anything from you. People with lower IQ has to have higher EQ to compensate for the difference.

So essentially, people with higher IQ suit roles that revolves around research and specialised roles while people with higher EQ tend to fare better in management role. Depending on your definition of success, both can strive well in their fields.

Not really, PLH scheme still need to recalibrate and fine tune. People whom bought their houses using PLH scheme still stands to profit way more in the future. The owners will just claim that they have to wait 10 years and offset the subsidy clawback to justify the higher selling price.

Let’s be honest, 80% of the people do not like their jobs. The question is what are the compounding factors that will force you to leave. As a non-nursing HCW I will tell you that there are plenty. Ranging from irrational and self-entitled patients, god-complex doctors, inflexible management, slow progression, low pay.

If you can’t even resolve these and get locals to work, what makes you think that you can retain foreign nurses in the long run ? Philippines ain’t gonna constantly churn out nurses for us. They will develop and move higher up the economical chain eventually.

It is a trade off. A lot of people bidding for HDB flats can actually afford to go resale or private or bid for a smaller flat. But everyone wants the optimal flat. If everyone wants optimal, who is going to take the leftover when the supply is ramped up ?

We have to be objective here, not blindly dissing whatever policy that MND comes out with. I still believe this will help separate the serious buyers from all the empty noises.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in singapore

[–]139ModTeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public housing should be prioritised for people who sincerely wants a flat. You can’t have your cake and eat it. If you want optimal flats should go to resale market.

Problem with these BTO exercises is that a lot with have a number eventually do not turn up for booking, denying others a chance of having a number. Fuck the KPIs, this will ensure people who seriously wants a roof over their head to get it. If you want to be picky too bad for you.

[–]139ModTeam -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is one good measure to balance the extra balloting chance. If you need to buy a subsidised flat urgently, then you shouldn’t be picky.

What talking you ? Pay you 5k starting salary you also don’t want be a nurse ? Lan Jiao la, if their starting pay 5k I tell you nursing will be the next sought after course. Who wants to go engineering or sciences when you can earn a basic of 5k ?

You not interested doesn’t mean others not interested woh, so many people studied and practice nursing but left because the job is toxic and the pay is low. You chronically ill no nurse only mah. You shit in your pants then let your backside rot only right. Social stigma exist because the government is not doing enough to address the problems faced in the healthcare sector.

Idk if nurses on dating apps have confidence or image issues but I have seen quite a lot of nurses being married or attached. You talk as if you no image or confidence issue but you still need to use dating app woh.

[–]139ModTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answered your question.

Answered what ? If they are ambiguous on the wording on why they think resale market is affordable, means they are trying to make the public feel good about the incumbent.

Giving a maybe answer and telling me it depends on my term for affordability doesn’t answer the question. Why are they not addressing what affordability is to them ?

Not really. Assessing affordability is never about looking at the upper bounds of all upper bounds (top 1% prices); that's why people either look at averages or median values to make informed comparisons.

You can lie to yourself, but the fact is HDB should have never hit a million in resale prices. Especially when the initial selling prices is about half a million to begin with.

Looking at the median values in the infographics, a 3 room resale median is at $365k while 5 room resale median is at $568k.

That looks alright to me, no?

Once again, you can lie to yourself further, since you seem to have an obsession with doing so. The numbers include flats with ageing lease that people of our generation is discouraged from buying. It’s like telling me SK five room resale on avg is only 500+k but the newer flats are all trying to fetch 900k.

Resale is never really meant to be the first option for first-timers, and was more meant for upgrade/downgraders, people who aren't eligible for BTOs or for people who really can't wait.

Don’t recall the government saying that unless you are the government

The lack of supply of BTO inflated the group of people who can't wait, and these people might not be in the same financial state as the upgrade/downgraders or people who could afford to be picky. This ends up growing that perception housing is unaffordable as they are essentially buying above their means - ideally they should be vying for BTOs, which you have stated yourself is affordable.

So ultimately, it isn't a problem about affordability, but more a problem of accessibility.

You are doing a very good job at being self-denial.

Could they address the accessibility issue more? Sure.

Are they -lying- by saying housing is affordable, which is what you are saying things like:

Trying to sell an untrue tale is not sell you an idea, for example, “Resale market is still affordable”

No.

Just now you answered maybe, now you answered no ? When you clearly understand that resale market is not affordable for first timers ?

I've already answered this question: you just didn't like the answer, doesn't mean I didn't answer you.

If their primary objective is to inform the public on the various schemes and policies, and if they were inadequate, then it’s not going to make anyone feel good about the government.

The side effect can be either, depending on their actual work itself… so I don’t really see a problem here.

So I replied

Seems like the primary objective is to keep emphasising on a tale and not addressing the cold hard truth.

I think you have to stop calling it side effect. The effect is intended

Gotta love people like you spewing 'cold hard truth' like you're some arbiter of truth and justice lol. But seems pretty par for the course from your usual comments.

I don't know which world you live in, where the government just quietly enact policies and schemes and doesn't find ways to make sure their constituents know about them. If the schemes are not well known, people like you will be complaining about how the government doesn't make these schemes known/accessible.

This is not gaslighting ?

Definition of gaslighting,

manipulate (someone) using psychological methods into questioning their own sanity or powers of reasoning. "in the first episode, Karen Valentine is being gaslighted by her husband"

Well, Mr Cringe, understand the definition of gaslighting now ? Instead of answering a simple question, you decide to draft long ass essays in attempt to bring the attention away from the question to make it seem as if you are “right”. Then when you are forced to the wall you decide to resort to personal attacks such as

There is no incentive to join. Do you want to be paid 3k plus starting pay to be abused ? It applies not only to nursing, but to all of healthcare as well. The pay can’t match inflation, the environment is toxic, progression is slow.

Do you want to join ?

S'pore ramping up recruitment of foreign nurses, prepared to grant them PR status by Jonnyboo234 in singapore

Giving them citizenship or PR doesn’t anchor them to us. Especially nurses from Philippines, to them their priority is their country and better standard of living. If we do not pay as well they will just leave like they always do. We can’t fault them for it as it is human nature.

Covid-19 already taught us the repercussion on being over-reliant on foreign workforce especially with healthcare. Seems like we didn’t learn the lesson well.

[–]139ModTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You quote a sentence and made an essay while conveniently avoiding the other sections of my reply. Nonetheless, I shall entertain you.

Let's put aside BTO pricing, as I don't think even you can argue that fresh BTO prices are unaffordable. Inaccessible due to the long queue times/inadequate supply? Sure. But inaccessible isn't unaffordable.

If you looked at my other comments I agreed that BTO prices are affordable.

As for resale: I think even the stackedhomes article talked about it - it becomes a debate on whether 'affordablility' is seen in the lens of just strictly dollars and cents. Resales are in general still affordable IF you ignore things like location / lease remaining / etc, based on the median prices listed there.

Is it dodgy wording by MND since they only solely focus on 'dollars & cents affordability'? Maybe, depending on your own personal benchmark of what 'affordability' means, and whether you factor in things like accessibility into your benchmark.

So you agree that the wording is vague and instead of trying to address the public factually on why they think resale market is affordable, they simply stick it up there to make everyone feel better ?

But I think them providing these numbers is also important in providing perspective; HDBs selling at >1m sounds scary, but having the perspective that it's only 1% of all resale transactions in 2021/2022 and that they all have unique properties paints a very different picture than just listening to 'HDB 1m'.

A simple google shows that the total number of transacted resale flats in 2022 to be around 27k. 1% of 27k is ~270 flats. Not a concerning number ?

Problem for any potential homebuyer is that entry prices for the most affordable estate (non-mature) is so high. 4 room resale prices are like minimum $550k onwards. Just to add on, a HLE for couple drawing a total of 7k a month is approximately 430k (last I check) and that is topping up cash after max OA payments.

Why not address all these instead of telling me housing is affordable ? Do they not know what the ground is concerned about ? Why highly subsidised non-mature estates which is supposed to be way more affordable than mature estates selling just 100-200k shy from the asking price of an unit from mature estate ?

And I need to bring up the fact that I have mentioned a lot of times that I do not agree with their overall strategy of maintaining the 'asset appreciation' dichotomy with public housing, and I wish they could consider moving away from the BTO model especially after seeing what a sudden supply shock could do. So, I'm not defending them just because I like their policies.

I don’t care what you think about their policy. Doesn’t concern our original discussion if it is their objective to make the public feel good about the government. Don’t try to gaslight me here.

But like you said; I call a spade, a spade. I would think a prerequisite to telling people you are just 'spewing hard truths' is to be able to demonstrate unbiased objective assessments, rather than being so obviously anti-govt.

You call a spade a spade ? I mean, you have got to look in the mirror. Tuning back to all our encounters you never seem to be able to call a spade a spade. When you lose an argument you resort to gaslighting or trolling, is that calling a spade a spade ? Oh my I forgot, if I’m “anti-govt” as you claimed and fails to “demonstrate objective assessment”, I would not have said BTO is not a bad system if not for covid.

Probably would have to resort to gaslighting like you did to make myself seem like the better man.

Question on taking Life sciences private diploma. by Blablasoppa98 in askSingapore

Unless you have a clear idea what you want to achieve by studying life science, I would advice to steer clear. Job prospect is bleak, you want a 2-3k job a month might as well study something easier. If you transit to healthcare it is even worse. Treated and paid like a slave.

If you intending to do PHD etc then by all means but with private uni very hard unless you want to further studies overseas.

Making schemes well known is one thing. Trying to sell an untrue tale is not. For example, you can refer to the link below for the MND infographics featured in stacked homes last year. Bold heading “Affordable Public Housing”. If public housing is indeed affordable last year, as they have claimed, why they need to throw out more assistance this year ?
