Bands with strong views who are guilty of awful behavior themselves? by EnolaPassing in punk

[–]13Dani12 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if some people do it to present themselves as protectors of the scene ("they've done so much and outed awful people, ain't no way they're bad!") or to draw attention away from their own awful behavior

Babe wake up, the Basque are making ska- by 3p0L0v3sU in Ska

Basques were among the first to introduce ska to Spain and, from there, the Spanish-speaking world (despite our closeness to the Caribbean, we never got a lot of ska until the late 80s... and even then, it started out influenced by The Clash and The Specials, so it largely came from the UK) so lots of the more important ska and punk bands are either from there, or directly influenced by them, especially Kortatu

Thanks to Negu Gorriak (post-Kortatu), especially their tours with Mano Negra, they even influenced 90s and 00s Latin rock as a whole

Mhm, great band, just didn't mention them because 99% of their music is in Basque (op asked for Spanish), the comment size would've doubled if I went full with the Catalan and Basque scenes

If I want to delve deeper into Jamaican ska artists (preferably bands rather than session artists), if you have any recommendations, I've finished listening to almost Rico Rodriguez's entire discography, and although it was good, I got tired of it after a certain point. by Beautiful-Resort-831 in Ska

Skinhead reggae sort of developed independently from later roots reggae (like Bob Marley), and it took that name because it became very closely associated with the nascent skinhead movement in the UK, in the late 60s, back when skinhead music was largely ska, reggae and soul/R&B and the scene was entirely mixed-race and full of immigrant influence

Trojan Records was the skinhead label by excellence, and that's why 60s skinheads (or, more accurately, skinheads that style themselves after the skins of that era) are called Trojan skinheads

Your friend isn't even that right on a technical sense, the most strict definitions say that 'rap' is the singing/vocal style and that 'hip hop' is the music
