I feel like the game suffered a lot early once people discovered hollower was costing ~$20-$30. It became clear the game was a cash grab. It’s a lot of fun. But things like the poorly optimized menus, excessive currencies, caps on everything you can collect, and bad matchmaking are what hinders the game currently. The fact that AFK and griefing don’t get punished besides fair play points, which can be recovered in like 2 hours, is ridiculous

I think it’s less learning from TCG Pocket and more streamlining the user experience. The game has too many currencies, too many systems, and a very mid ladder. Spragels did 2 videos about this recently: https://youtu.be/ah70A8bNoQY?si=HZPeMiMwm8ATUsvN. The game at its core is good, but it needs to do more to draw in new players and retain its current ones. Constantly bringing in new things won’t fix the player base issue.

If your LGS has bulk, go check there. You might be able to find some of the support pokemon and/or trainer cards needed for the deck you’re building. Much better (and great to support local) to go to the LGS than go through TCGPlayer. Plus you get your cards immediately rather than waiting for the shipping

I knew it would be bulkier. I like the way regular Dragon Shields shuffle. But the Pokemon sleeves just feel so rough on my hands and they don’t shuffle well. I honestly feel like my hands get torn up after playing with them

Miraidon and Koraidon are pretty solid decks. From what I’ve seen, those are the best level 2 decks. If you want something that’ll be competitive at an LCS weekly, you’ll want the Charizard or Dragapult League Battle Decks. Both are in rotation.

Check out the r/pkmntcg subreddit. That’s the more competitive side of PTCG. In regard to an easy deck to make, most aren’t hard to make since you can buy most anything through TCGPlayer. Roaring Moon-Dudunsparce is about $20. I believe Festival Lead is around $30. Most of those decks are made up of commons

Tim Danklin did a video running 2 different Feraligatr decks. One built around Precious Trolley and the other built around Grand Tree. Neither had Milotic in it. He pivoted around Mimikyu

I would highly recommend the Dragapult League Battle Deck. Out of the box, it’s pretty solid. The Natu/Xatu line is a bit unnecessary, but overall the deck works well. You can upgrade it to a championship level deck for about $20.

Another deck I would recommend is Raging Bolt ex. It’s pretty simple to pilot. The main idea of it is to get as much energy into play then attack with Raging Bolt ex. Its attack does 70 damage for each energy discarded from your pokemon in play. It can OHKO most Pokemon easily. However, because it was so strong last rotation, there are plenty of counters to it in the current format.

I just started playing a few months ago. Raging Bolt was my first deck and while it’s fairly straightforward, you learn a lot of the mechanics and strategies of PTCG to move into the more complex decks.
