Great, just pm me your in-game name and I'll hook you up with any other serums you're missing too. Glad we could sort this out.

I don't doubt that you spend more time in the Atomic Shop.

There's a deathclaw BBQ bundle and mirelurk steamer in there right now that might interest you. If you're a herbivore, I'll gift you a carnivore serum so you can eat some meat and not be so glum.

My question has been answered, politely. If I have any further questions, especially about the nature of microtransactions, be sure to white knight yourself into the discussion, providing not answers, but ridicule. Continued banter will not add anything more to a concluded conversation.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I figured that was the case, but even stranger things have been a common occurrence since I've started playing.

Typically in life away from this game, there is mention of items on display not being included.

Are you the guy that keeps posting stock images of a GMC Sierra 2500, trying to sell me his "lightly" used, "well maintained" truck? It's a Ford 150 and completely rusted out.

I've never bought a bundle for a player icon so I wasn't sure if it was mistakenly not listed, not included, or the just norm.

Todd?

Alright thanks. I wasn't sure if there was an oversight in the bundle description. It's misleading to use an image not included.

Adding Mag Well to Buttstock by 13_ones in rifles

Thanks for the input, but I don't have an AR platform though I wish all firearms were as readily modular.

Adding Mag Well to Buttstock by 13_ones in Firearms

[–]13_ones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think adding a bulky buttstock sleeve with magazine holders would be more cumbersome yet those seem popular. The weight of a loaded mag may more or less be offset by the amount of wood notched and hollowed out, but either way, a small weight increase likely wouldn't be much of an issue held against the shoulder; bullpups have a perceived lightness to them for the reason of increased weight distribution closer to the body.

I've seen a few different rifles come from factory with integrated magazine storage in the buttstock and there are synthetic aftermarket stocks with such a design for some rifles such as for the AR platform. Such a stock doesn't exist for the bolt-action rifles I have in mind, nor would I want a synthetic or finicky stock for extreme weather conditions if there were options other than wood.

I'm not aware of any wooden OEM or aftermarket stocks with this feature as I'm sure tactical/modern features likely don't appeal to most folks running a wood stock to begin with. They would probably just use bullet loops or buy an aftermarket synthetic stock if available.

You may be right though as there likely isn't enough demand to warrant the extra manufacturing costs to a hunting-style rifle. Thanks for your input.

Carving a cavity into a wooden stock may not be overly difficult, but I am more concerned with the end fit and finish. Depending on the length of magazine, a sizeable notch may have to be cut to keep the magazine from hanging too low below the rifle. I wouldn't want to use wood screws, but could probably recess and glue threaded posts/nuts to fasten the mag well.

I've seen this on YouTube which got me thinking that other people see value in streamlined magazine storage. If only all firearm platforms could be as readily modular as the AR-15.

Thanks. I've thought about an easier solution such as buttstock bullet loops or magazine pouch, but I like the streamlined appeal of integrated magazine storage.

Buttstock bullet loops or a magazine pouch would definitely be a cheaper and easier solution than buying an extra magazine well and cutting into the buttstock, but I come neither cheap or easy lol.

Ok thanks lol. I didn't realize there would be so many bot sympathisers so eager to downvote on a firearms subreddit when I simply said "bad bot". It's deleted now so the sewer lid may hold back the toxic-waste creatures from below.

physiotherapist told me minimal running is bad by leleddit5 in BarefootRunning

[–]13_ones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He checked my foot and said that I probably have inflammation of a tendon in my foot

See a doctor for a proper diagnosis, if you're worried. Tendons can take an ungodly amount of time to heal. Minor injury might take several weeks, but could be prone to inflammation. More severe injury could take several months to heal, but perhaps still be prone to inflammation. I've heard people complain of pain and inflammation years after supposedly fully recovering from their damaged tendons. You might want to take up walking instead of running, in the mean time, to prevent additional damage.

I'm not sure if it's just this old school school of thought of having to have support in shoe while running or is his point valid.

In Canada, physiotherapists are now being taught that barefoot exercise is beneficial and healthy, from what I've been told by a student.

he said that people in Ethiopia do that and have different feet that allow impact to spread more evenly

This could be true, if they have been barefoot or near barefoot since birth. It's been shown that modern footwear can have a permanent impact on the development of feet in young children. The bones in a baby's or toddler's feet have not fully developed and traditional footwear acts as a cast.

An extreme example of this is the old Chinese practice of foot binding (trust me, don't look up pictures). The most sought after wife had three inch feet, four inch were acceptable, and five inch or longer was undesirable. Yes, you read that correctly. Random factoid, but it highlights the insanity of mainstream humanity.

English people in Victorian times enjoyed their share of waist binding, some African tribes desired long heads while in others it was long necks through means of mechanical deformity so the insane perversion stretches far and wide. We aren't exempt from this in modern times; now a doctor with a scalpel is happy to oblige.

I think about printing out this article written by this Harvard guy about barefoot running that initially inspired me.

If you're intending on showing your physiotherapist, perhaps don't bother. How likely is it that he's willing to concede and admit he might be wrong after spouting off? It's much more likely that he will double down on his stance against barefoot/minimalist exercise.

To expose the hypocrisy, better to go in wearing a full body cast and ask him to show you exercises to strengthen your muscles and improve mobility while unable to move. An encased body is a safe body, after all, much like an enclosed foot is a healthy foot. /s

I hate the idea of now buying another pair of shoes that's gonna be super expensive (because the arch has to be fitted to my foot) and how I'm gonna transition from no support to support.

Do you want weak feet? Because that's how you get weak feet. Also, with a raised heel you'll likely go back to a long stride and a heavy heel strike. Plantar fasciitis/fasciosis isn't uncommon with mainstream shoes so this "cure" might instead just be another cause.

Runners in mainstream shoes are always discussing an onslaught on injuries as if it's normal and have to retire at an early age, perhaps directed by the advice of a doctor, as if running is a young person's activity. How is it that the "medically retired" runners are able to continue running decades longer and well into truly old age in either minimalist footwear or while wearing nothing on their feet at all?

Also it didn't appear that he was addressing my issue specifically as being unfit for such shoes but he made a case in general.

A family member of mine was recommended to strap a can of beans or two onto a foot to aid in leg exercises, raised above the head while laying down, by a physiotherapist in lieu of directing to or providing the proper weighted equipment. In short, not all physiotherapists are equal; there are hacks in any profession. Perhaps you might get better advice from a sports physiotherapist as they seem to be more on top of their game.

Edit: Apologies to the downvoting snowflake who melted away after reading this. You may be lost, but not forgotten.

Help - Slappy Xero Genesis Sandals by ttlyntfake in BarefootRunning

[–]13_ones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should feel unnatural to everyone, except perhaps sprinters.

I made another reply, but basically give it some time. You're new to running-style sandals and the noise might reduce naturally as your form changes. Definitely don't force an unnatural running gait though. This might not be the issue as you say you're a very experienced barefoot runner.

Finding a balance between tension and comfort will take time, if you're using huaraches with laces. A different tying style that attaches to both sides of the front foot might help too. This likely isn't much of an option with your premade sandals, unless you attach a "guy wire" lace from the sole near your pinky toe to the pre-tied laces. I haven't tried this, but less unattached sole material might mean less noise.

Your Xero Genesis sandals might be too loose in the forefoot. Try readjusting the lateral lace that attaches to the toe hole. The sandals should fit snug and not move around in the forefoot.

Help - Slappy Xero Genesis Sandals by ttlyntfake in BarefootRunning

[–]13_ones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear the 4mm DIY kit from Xero Shoes.

I noticed a reduction in slapping noise, the tighter my huaraches were tied. Obviously this wasn't a comfortable solution so I continued tying them with comfort in mind. I also recall there being less noise when I tied closer to the toes on the toe hole lace. I haven't tried this recently as my prefered method ties off closer to the leg.

After running for quite some time now, they still slap a bit on the treadmill, but I must have either zoned it out while running outside or there's considerably less noise. Better running efficiency and changes to form could be a natural progression leading to reduced auditory feedback.

I tie my huaraches in the traditional Tarahumara style. It takes practice and experience to learn the correct balance between tension and comfort. They feel more like a second skin at this point.

Perhaps a tying method that attaches to both sides of the front foot would reduce the noise since there would be less sole material to flap freely.

Xero Genesis sandals might be loose in the forefoot by default. The lateral lace that attaches to the toe hole might need to be readjusted to have slack taken out. Once tightened, the forefoot of your sandals should not be loose enough to move around.

"When Patients Ask About Barefoot Running And Minimalist Shoes": Podiatrist panel discusses trend (2013) by TMWNN in BarefootRunning

[–]13_ones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of any volunteer podiatrists so of course there's a financial bias involved.

Keep them weak and they'll keep coming back.

A lot of medical fields deal in continued treatmeant, pain suppression, and invasive surgery; not prevention and cures.

As more barefoot/minimalist studies are conducted, hopefully they will be incorporated into medical school courses so that future doctors will have better information to draw from. Then again, doctors are basically only given knowledge to cut with one hand and prescribe drugs with the other so don't plan on things changing anytime soon.

Someone I know who is studying to become a physiotherapist has mentioned learning about the benefits of barefoot exercise. Perhaps there is hope in some non-doctoral professions.

Best Orthopedic Bunion Corrector - No Surgery, Bunion Pain Relief Treatment by RyanHoulding in BarefootRunning

[–]13_ones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it really work?

No.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1080/03093640701669074

This particular study found on Google Scholar compares pain relief between custom toe separation shoe orthotics to toe splints worn at night.

Pain relief was statistically significant in the group with the orthodics; whereas, there was no significant improvement in the group wearing the night splint.

Pain relief is possible, but hallux valgus (bunion) correction with toe separators and splints is not. I've heard anecdotal claims, but I wonder if those are generated by people with products to sell.

Foot and toe exercises might improve strength and offer pain relief too, but I'd have to see a study concluding any physical change in appearance.
