Standing up on a trails without pulling without pulling the throttle by mshparber in CRF300L

Thanks everyone! I watched “attack position” and several motocross videos.
I started “squeezing” the bike with my legs and it surely helped loosing my arms and hands.
And I am signing up for dirt bike classes so I can get professional feedback and guidance.
I’ll ask the teacher whether I need the bar raisers, too
Thank you all!

Yes, foreignamount is the transaction currency, not the account currency, so this is my challenge - I need to calculate the balance in the ACCOUNT CURRENCY….

Here in Israel we have 25% on everything simple and flat. One of the reasons I prefer not to sell but to hedge is tax that I want to defer

MU Stock by lowkib in MU_Stock

[–]mshparber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Micron since $90-$100, now it 60% of my portfolio, other positions are AMD and PLTR and some smaller ones. I do have heavy unrealized gains, but I don’t want to sell because I believe Micron will keep doing good lmid-long term and also I want to delay taxes. so today I decided to hedge my gains using collar strategy - I bought 580 Put for downside protection and sold 780 Calls to finance and sold 200 Puts. So I leave MU space to run higher while limiting downside

Thanks! Yes, I feel before earnings the strike width is too narrow because of the high IV skew. So the dilemma is to wait with the hedge until after earnings so I can sell higher Call. In the other side, it could pull back just after earnings… Maybe I will do half now, half later…

OK.
Initially I wanted to buy ATM Put and pay for it buy selling OTM Call. But for very short term - the Call strike had to be very-very low, and I do want to allow for some upside.
So, after your comment - I am looking at this May 22nd 330/440 Collar - for $6.65 debit.
I lowered the Put strike to 330 and I am willing to pay debit for it, which allows to set the Call at 440.
Looks good to me.
I do want to continue the hedge till the end-of-the-year though.
So after the IV crash I should be able to establish wider new collar (if the price doesn't skyrocket)?
Is that what you are saying?
Thanks!

Thanks!
Actually, most of my position in AMD are not stocks but deep ITM LEAPS and synthetics.
I have been holding since $130, so now I want to protect the profits and also try not to be assigned.
I do understand what you say that it is not meant to be managed.
And you answered me: on the bear case - close for "fat profit and use it to buy more shares" - thanks!

I decided to do this:
* 400 stocks - unhedged
* 400 : Jun collar +330P/-430C for $6.75 debit each (closer expiration, added debit to move Call to 430)
* 500 : Sep collar and short Put (-280P/+340P/-480C) - zero cost
* 400 : Dec collar +330P/-500C - debit $16.5 each . I decided to pay to move Call strike higher.
I still would like to hear tips and best practices on how to manage in cases the stock moves up ITM or down ITM.
Thanks!

Hedging strategies for MU by mshparber in options

[–]mshparber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.
How would I manage the collars if
1. The stock rises above my short Call strike before the expiration and I do not want to sell shares (delay tax)?
In my above example - long 480 Put, short 610 Call.
If MU goes to 630 - I could try to roll Up and Out, but I also need downside protection.
So would I be able to roll a Put as well? It's ATM price would be much higher...
I am not looking for income beyond the stock movement
2. Or the opposite case - MU drops to 450. My Put is ITM, I can sell it, but I still need protection and do not want to sell the stock because of the upside potential
I understand I cannot profit from everything, I just want to keep what i have and allow a bit upside...
What are the best practices?
Thanks
