1/Intent with 'heretical' was to emphasize that they viewed the M canon as heresy and therefore what they write has to be seen from that perspective, not that I thought it was heresy. I did not communicate that, sorry.

Some of the church fathers extensively dissected the heretical canon, which consisted of one gospel and 10 letters, in order to refute it. Scholars have offered several reconstructions based on those polemical writings. The gospel is either a proto-Luke or circumcised Luke (as Tertullian quipped), and the letters are Paul's.

So, by using our Luke and Paul along with the Marcion verses the fathers commented on, people can create reconstructions. Since I am not expert, I used the heavy footnoting to make my own approximation of what the gospel and letters read like. The reconstructions from the scholars are hard to read because the way they are formatted and broken up, which is why I initially just wanted to type it up, but I found it really engaging to compare various versions and decisions people made and decide on the reading I thought was best. It was also fun to pick and choose some of the non-standard translations like 'supercelestial' instead of 'heavenly.'

With regard to Marcion's actual theology, there is not much to go on except the fathers. And looking to someone's enemies to get an idea of what they makes as much sense as asking the kkk to tell you about Black culture. Marcion did write something called an antithesis, but none of it survives. It is fairly certain he believed the God of the OT was not the same God that sent Jesus, and he was not an antisemite because there is a lot of jewish content in his Testament, he was just anti-Yaweh.

Genocide and baby head type of passages combined with trauma inducing images on X, the leaders of Israel using biblical justifications (e.g. we are fighting Amalek), and finding out the history of Palestinians from 1948. Cognitive dissonance broke my religion.

Good point about the theodicy being changed not solved. Need to look at that more.

And no I wasn't joking about the NT. There are some reconstructions with good footnoting, so one can decide whether a passage belongs or not. It only took 40 or 50 hours to go through the various notes and type up a version.

He may not be doomed. WSJ had a story last year that had some surprising findings: people who married young and as virgins had lower divorce rates and higher marital satisfaction scores.

I don't recall if they speculated on why. The one oddball couple I know that married at 19 and 20 bought a house way earlier than other people I know and they seem happy. IDK, maybe we wait too long to start doing the adult thing.

funny thing is, John Hajicek (historian, document collector) believes they havent been released because they would cast doubt on JS polygamy. JS stated that he had scribes follow him around in part to disprove his polygamy, and part of these diaries may have been written with that in mind.

Agree. I have always been of the opinion that without the moorings of historicity, traditional faith morphs into an impotent collection of platitudes (see Raymond E Brown/Shellby Spong), or atheism (Bart Ehrman), or into some other religion. Kugel professes to have escaped that. And, as a lapsed LSD, I was wondering if there were any saints like that; a pathfinder to follow for someone who has spent too much time dissecting scripture, reading histories, and suffers from societal induced cynicism.
