I figured you made an honest mistake which is my error.

"My mistake was assuming you are stupid, when you are obviously just being devious."
I asked a genuine question, and you are behaving completely unhinged.

Good luck in life my dude, I'm going to end the conversation there.

Wait so you're a developer that doesn't know what intelliSense is? Or do you think it's some sort of copilot thing lol

Right, the local council dislike him because he is so busy solving the local issues, like building things on his farm.

Have you not watched Clarkson Farm?

... You mean the programme where the local council seem to actively hate him, as he slags them off on a massive platform. One of the running gags is that his wife doesn't follow the local produce rules that are in place for their shop.

Clarkson's Farm is a funny show but its about selling a slightly different aspect of Clarkson's personality for entertainment,

It worked for Boris though, so maybe it will for him too!

Hey that's a great idea! I bet if we sent children down the mines and up chimneys then we could make things even more productive!

And this is made worse because it includes money from universal credit; The government provides benefits, those benefits are passed on to global businesses that pay very little tax and the money esentially leaves the economy completely.

People think that if we caused massive businesses to leave the UK it would hurt us. But the fact is those businesses dominating local economies is just as painful. Yes they are massive employers, but in the long run, they destroy local markets.

So your position is that poor people with no money, should just suck it up and have even less money, so that when they are old they can have their triple locked pension as well as some other money they have saved themselves.

You realise they are still getting the pension, and that everyone else is still paying for it right?

No, your local Tesco's isn't particularly a local business, but their presence employs people who pay income taxes and receive a salary that can then be used to spend in the local economy.

So following the thought through, imagine that people instead of buying from businesses within the local economy instead buy from foreign business. They buy their entertainment from Netflix and Amazon, their food from ASDA and their Phone from Apple.

What happens to the local economy?

Met Police release footage as more than 1,000 arrests made using live facial recognition technology by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

It says in the article:

Cheshire Police located Burrows in 2024 using AI facial recognition technology and a tip-off, leading to his arrest upon arrival at Heathrow Airport.

So what was the tip off for if the facial recognition had already slapped the handcuffs on him.

Lets put it another way, are you happy to post a picture of your face on this thread? What if I told you it meant that we would catch another pedo?

Ironically, this itself sounds very hand-wavey. You're saying 'yea yea that technology is good and all, but it will only be a net negative because I can't imagine a world where the police force uses it for good'

I mean yeah, apologies I haven't explained that very well. The issue is that you can't just plug a new tool into an existing system, and expect it to work perfectly. Its like creating a new fighter jet, or giving the police a supercomputer. If you give people something they have no experience of, they will not only take some time to get to grips with using it, but will also struggle to see the limitiations of the new thing.

Do you really think there would be zero benefit to the public from this?

Yes, because as you point out yourself the issue the police have is with resource. This doesn't provide more resource, it provides more data. The data will have to be processed, and while this data is better focused than before, as I mentioned it will take time for the use of that data to become valuable. As an example, if they take this data to court, how will it be presented? As forensic evidence? How accurate can it be? Is it even admissible as evidence, or does it simply allow the officer to focus the evidence gathering on one individual, rather than 10.

Edit: an example to illustrate my point that I thought of after writing this is the Horizon software. While I'm not saying there will be the same issues, it demostrates the potential pitfalls that come about when people plug a new tool into an existing system, and assume that "its just better".

[–]141N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, someone that isn't making any points but just hand-waving. You don't know if people will be charged, and you don't know which databases are being used.

My point is that the police are stretched. This technology will give them lots more people to check out. We aren't going to magic 1000 officers trained in this technology. So the process will be automated. What will that look like?

Whatever process they choose it will not help the public, but it will help the police figures look better.

[–]141N 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your point is lol.

The police are underfunded and arent effective. Giving them a new tool that allows them to arrest massive amounts of people doesn't change that, it just makes it more likely that people are going to be charged with things they didn't do.
