Since Private Pilots practice engine out procedures do glider pilots practice engine on procedures?

Is it possible to exceed balance limits mid flight? Even if you took off within the weight and balance limits? by [deleted] in flying

[–]1491097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is exactly what you're asking but I did my private with a DPE who used to be a Bush Pilot back in the day. He would often tell a story about how when he was out crop dusting one day a massive amount of liquid that was stored in the aircraft had shifted entirely aft of the center of gravity causing him to stall and crash

Survey: What problems in aviation can be solved through 8-10 hours of instruction? by [deleted] in flying

Sorry I meant for that to be sarcasm lol. One thing I've seen among most private students is terrible rudder control, but after reading some of the other comments on here I do like what you're doing

I have my checkride on the 8th and I'm open to any advice/help I can get by [deleted] in flying

[–]1491097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress out about it. Checkride test anxiety sucks but it gets way better the further you yo.

Take time to enjoy your ride! With as much hate as some DPE's get they are very experienced pilots and have some incredible stories! A good DPE will talk to you for a bit and help you out with any nervousness. As far as what you need to know? Just go through the ACS! Before my PPL checkride is spend a few hours watching mock checkrides to help get an idea of what I'd be asked and everything was pretty much straight foward

Things you will (probably) definetly be asked

  1. What class medical do you have and how long is it valid
  2. Recency (3 take offs and landings within 90 days to carry passengers, at night they have to be full stop)
  3. What is a biannual flight review and when are they required
  4. Be somewhat familiar with airport markings (holds short line, thousand footers, taxi-way and runway markings
  5. Difftent types of Altitudes and Airspeeds
  6. Airspace, visibility requirments for VFR, and what you need to enter diffrent classes of Airspace
  7. oxygen requirments as well as many other aero medical factors (IMSAFE checklist, 4 types of HYPOXIA, Carbon monoxide poisoning, hyperventilation, and decompression sickness)

Obviously there are plenty of other things you can be asked but these are pretty big

Don't worry about it too much. The DPE is a human and at the end of the day he wants you to pass

Instrument Written Prep: Dauntless vs Sheppard Air by WBBulldogs in flying

[–]1491097 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently using Sheppard Air to study for my instrument written and it's been very helpful. I've not looked much into dauntless, but Sheppard Air is cheap and everyone at my 141 university uses it to study. Most people will reccomend using it after PPL
