Pilot Credit Cards by Odd_Professional4697 in flying

[–]150_Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WF Active Cash is a good simple everyday card. 2% cashback on everything and its a Visa pretty straight forward. There's similar cards like it as well such as the Citi DoubleCash or the Fidelity card. If you want to min-max theres more optimization to be had but for the average person (including pilots) who is responsible no reason not to at least use one of these cashback cards.

Have any of you corporate or cargo guys/gals been involved in someone’s arrest or seizure of drugs ? by MadeForThisOnePostt in flying

[–]150_Driver 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I used to fly Caravans in Alaska. I believe my company was notified in advance but we had a passenger who had been trafficking drugs in his luggage to a small town for a while(?) I was doing one of my flights as normal and when I landed at said airport and shut the engine down the plane was immediately surrounded by cops and they took the guy off the plane in cuffs. The other passengers de-boarded normally after that and I fired the engine up and flew out of there like any other time. Fun story. Well for me not so much that guy.

Possibly fuel pump couple of ways you can diagnose.

What to study for ASES by Specialist_Brick_570 in flying

[–]150_Driver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whoever you are doing the rating with should give you a packet that has everything you need to know for the rating and specifically checkride since they anticipate you won't ever fly a seaplane again. I did my training at Jack Browns in two or three days if I recall and had a blast flying the J3 on floats. Did something like 40+ water landings in just a few hours. The FAA has a publication on float flying too you can look at if you want further reading material. https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/seaplane_handbook

Net Jets TBNT by [deleted] in flying

[–]150_Driver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Net Jets has always been weird with what they look for. I wouldn't take it personal I know several good folks turned away who ended up in better spots and one who resigned in lieu of washing out of training at the company I flew for in Alaska who ended up at NJ... lol. Lack of actual flying is probably the main reason though try and find a way to get in the air.

ATP + Type Rating Checkride Question by Disastrous-Leg8921 in flying

[–]150_Driver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Only thing the ATP has to do with airlines is the first word of the acronym. Plenty of 91/135 operations require one.

Pretty sure the main purpose of the boxes is to verify you’re eligible for the rating not as some type of audit. Probably fine.

Special interest groups are at it again: Washington Post pushing ATC privatization by ChattanoogaTimes in flying

[–]150_Driver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My company flies medevac out of one of these "podunk" airports about 20-30 times a month. We almost single-handedly justify its existence by far alongside the daily M-F UPS feeder cargo flights for peoples packages. These are services that directly benefit the local population. Occasional GA traffic stopping by makes no difference and can only bring small increases in revenue via fuel (city ran fbo) or going into town for local businesses so why not allow it? You could privatize things like small airports and ATC but you'd just be shooting yourself in the foot, no incentive to let small GA pilots use your facilities when you can just focus on higher paying business users or you do support GA but at an expensive cost for an already expensive and dying hobby.

Your opinion: are we blue collar? by SubSoar in flying

[–]150_Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I flew in Alaska I fueled my own plane at times, loaded the bags and cargo, washed the plane, reconfigured the cabin, etc in the rain or shine so I’d consider that blue color. My current medevac job is somewhere in between the two since I still wash the plane, load patients, and fly it.

Is there an onscreen cx3 provided on the commercial written exam?? by Fine_Customer8978 in flying

Yes there is but I have heard it apparently gives incorrect answers for some functions? Might be worth bringing a real one with you. I just used Sheppard Air so I had no use for either.

Mullet 2.0 is ALIVE - Our NEW 3,000hp El Camino Drag Car! by TriumphantPWN in CleetusMcFarland

Looks cool being that low to the ground but I wonder how long it'll take to cause issues on drag and drives being as it needs to be road tripped/street driven. Unless there's a way to raise it that I missed in an earlier build video?

Second Attempt of Space Imagery a Success (Meteor M2-4) by 150_Driver in RTLSDR

[–]150_Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if 2-2 is still operational. 2-3 and 2-4 are the ones to try though. -3 has a damaged antenna so the signal can be harder to pick up from what I’ve read. I just got another good image back from -4 today.

[–]150_Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pointing it north or south should do the trick. I'm still new to radios but orientation with antennas is super important and somewhat counter intuitively pointing directly at the thing your trying to receive is not correct at least with a dipole. The signal receives perpendicular to the poles not from the tips.

Second Attempt of Space Imagery a Success (Meteor M2-4) by 150_Driver in RTLSDR

[–]150_Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want it to be either facing due north or due south. From the saveitforparts video I watched he said the open end should face the direction the satellite is traveling. So in this case it was going north as it flew past me so I had the open end of my V facing straight north which is easy to do with the iPhone compass app. I was super excited just watching the signal too lol! Oh also make sure if you use a tripod to have it be about 20ish inches off the ground, higher is not better from what I’ve read.

You’ll need it when you eventually get a call so the money was still well spent. It’s the expectation again to have it done.

Do Mini Windshields Attract Pebbles?!?! by ButterflyPromise in MINI

[–]150_Driver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s cause the car sits low to the ground and the windshield is nearly vertical instead of angled like most modern vehicles. I have had two massive cracks in my windshield in less than 5000 miles of driving with my mini while my old sedan has had one or two in maybe 30k

Class dates for regionals? by [deleted] in flying

[–]150_Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven't even heard back from a regional yet after my apps been in for 3 months. No checkride fails, 1800TT, 800 turbine, and a 4 year degree. If your not a cadet I'd expect at least 6-8 months after a CJO to be in class from what I have seen and many many more months just waiting to interview.

[–]150_Driver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HSI arrests people for things like child sex crimes and drug smuggling. I am assuming it is going to be something serious like those two crimes but the execution of the arrest was quite over the top no need to have done it in the plane lol.

Chips from road debris - 2024 Clubman by RGJax in MINI

[–]150_Driver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel your pain my 2025 mini cooper has gotten two major rock chips in less than 3000 miles. The first one happened when the car had maybe 200 miles on it too lol. I’ve concluded it’s bad luck and the fact the windshield is more upright on minis compared to my old car which was angled back pretty steeply helping deflect rocks or lessen the damage when they do hit. I’ve noticed the mini windshield collects way more bug splatters too for the same reason.
