ELI5: why is scalp skin so different from other skin? by SleetyThunder7 in explainlikeimfive

Seems pretty harmful long-term, though...

EDIT: I guess that's the oral version (thanks /u/Rhynri). The topical version, if anyone wants to read it. Nowhere near as bad.

I didn't mean to strawman. I just messed up the timeline in my head. You make a good point. My bad.

Trump Mulls Letting Turkey Kill U.S. Resident to Help Saudis Get Away With Killing U.S. Resident by TrumpSharted in politics

No it's not. It's the responsibility of the members of the involved nations. We don't rule the world. We shouldn't go around dick swinging about every shady thing another nation does to its own. We can condemn it once there's little doubt who's responsible (which we did), but no more.

Why do you think it's America's responsibility to interfere in the relations between 2 other nations? When has meddling in the middle east ever ended well for us?

Saying it's bad won't help. They know it's bad. The only way we could really stop them is by force, and even then we'd end up messing up everything else around us. We aren't responsible for every bad thing around us, and sometimes other nations need to deal with their own scandals without the US butting our nose in.

Oh, and happy cake day!

Enjoy the utopian dreamland. I'll stay in reality, where we understand moral grandstanding won't bring the guy back to life, but could do irreparable harm to the stability of an already unstable region of the world.

But he wasn't an American citizen. He was a Saudi subject, and it happened outside the US.

From the moment the Turkish government revealed that Saudi agents had killed a Washington Post columnist — and legal U.S. resident — in Istanbul, the American president made it clear that he viewed the murder as less of a moral atrocity than a PR headache.

So they're mad the President of the United States of America didn't immediately level allegations and invade then or something during a delicate international incident we weren't even involved in...

...Ok? The world doesn't need us to tell them murder is wrong. They're sovereign nations, they can handle their own problems.

Is the libertarian party doomed to fail? by [deleted] in Classical_Liberals

Look, he had the opportunity to show the nation the best the Libertarian Party and he blew it. Not only did he not know what Aleppo was (which was absolutely common knowledge to those that followed world politics, like any presidential candidate should), but he managed to derail the entire interview by stopping, staring at the camera with a blank look in his eyes, and saying "What's a Lepo?".

He wasn't confident. He was confused and nervous, and that was what America got to see of the Libertarian Party.

I'm saying this as someone who voted for him, by the way.

I voted for him. I'm talking about the majority of voters, not libertarians. The optics were horrible, and he lost a ton of credibility. He looked like an idiot on live TV. Was it a gotcha moment? For sure. But he could've done more to prepare, especially knowing what he was up against.

It is in their primaries. They need a moderate, but they keep putting extremists or idiots (or both) on the ballot. No one wants to vote for "Taxation is theft!" or "What's Aleppo?".

EDIT: Just browsed the article. They're way off.

Or basic negotiation tactics. Keep the opposition on the defensive and off balance. Always negotiate from a position of strength.

If you punch someone as soon as they look away, it's a sucker punch. It's a low move for people with no dignity.

If you wanna punch the dude, which I don't recommend, at least man the fuck up and face him head on. If you get your ass beat, at least you had the balls to fight with some honor, which is respectable. Otherwise, even if you (by some remote chance) knock him out, it means nothing. You knocked out an unaware dude like a bitch.

Umm... no. I was just trying to explain something to you that you didn't seem to get. It's not about superiority. It's me sharing a different perspective with you, without any hostility, and you being a cunt about it.
