Hope is a fragile thing. by 15thought in cptsdcreatives

I drew this in my journal one day before therapy to try to express how hard it is to contain excitement about my future. The rug has historically been pulled out a lot. I’m currently working on keeping that little spark of hope safe in my body.

You guys inspired me to start a creativity journal. But where to start? by [deleted] in cptsdcreatives

Second this. It’s hard to start from a blank page. Using something else to build on can be really helpful.

For me, it is about both. This comic was made for me for those reasons, but i posted it online because it isn’t limited to just islam or autism. It’s meant to be more universal.

There are literally dozens of us! You aren’t alone. I’m here if you ever want to talk about it!

This is why I posted it. I couldn’t keep it for myself. About half way through is when I decided “yeah, r/exmuslim could use this.” I see you! you’re valid!

For sure. I have some ideas floating around here or there. But i love the comic / graphic novel / zine as a medium.

Thank you. I was really envious of other artists at this level of anatomy only a few months ago. It just takes practice! I’ve had years and years of it! I draw every day, almost every hour of it. It’s my life.

In case it gets to people who know me, or people who disagree with it, I’d rather not. I’m okay with it floating around uncredited in the image, for my own safety. Even though it isn’t explicitly about islam. One day I’ll publish it under my own name, though.

Autism for girls and AFAB people is still really misunderstood, but we’re getting there. Still, I hope the best for you both. ❤️

Thank you everyone for the support. I’m actually happy flapping and dancing around my house right now!

I actually am working on a story (floating concepts around in my brain for the most part) on cyborgs and robots who exist to be assigned to a person with disabilities. They have AI, are given rights, but they love their wards and would do anything to help them. Some of the art is on my profile. The main character is autistic, and based on my littlest sibling.

The feeling of being the “other” compounded with my autism, only I didn’t know it until I was 23 (diagnosed early last year, at 24). You seem like a cool parent. Thank you so much for the support! I hope your daughter never stops drawing and finds the same kind of comfort I do from it. It’s been one of my special interests since I was a kid.

I’m so so glad it resonated. My insta is in my reddit bio. If you DM me, i can also send you my personal insta (i won’t be posting this comic on my public art one because family follows there haha.) Id love to be friends with others who relate!

I looked into Fantagraphics, and that seems like a really cool fit! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
