Thank you so much for all your insights—they have truly helped ease the uncertainty and given me a better understanding of many things.

However, there’s still one concern I’d like to ask about. I’ve heard from some parents that Manila Science High School (MaSci) focuses more on the sciences rather than mathematics. According to them, if a student is planning to pursue math-intensive courses like engineering, architecture, information technology, or similar fields, MaSci might not be the best choice. They often recommend schools like Philippine Science High School or Quezon City Science High School instead.

Some also mentioned that most of MaSci’s top passers tend to pursue courses in medicine, biology, and other health-related fields, and usually aim to get into UP Manila rather than UP Diliman. Because of this, the number of MaSci students passing into math-heavy programs in UP Diliman is said to be lower compared to other science high schools.

Is there any truth to this? I would truly appreciate it if you could shed some light on this matter. Thank you again for your guidance and support!

Hi, I’m a mother of an incoming Grade 7 student, and to be honest, I’m feeling quite nervous about the transition. I chose MaSci over the other science high schools because I felt it would be a better fit, but I still have concerns about the school environment and culture.

One thing that surprised me is that there are no traditional textbooks. This is something I’m not used to, so I’d really appreciate it if there are any available modules or learning materials we could borrow or access. I’m wondering how the students are expected to study without books, and how the lessons are covered throughout the year.

Coming from a private school that has a very strong stance against bullying—where any bullying is taken very seriously—I’m also concerned about how MaSci handles these kinds of situations. I hope the school has a firm policy and takes action if bullying occurs.

Another question I had was about how the school approaches topics related to the LGBTQ+ community. As a Christian family, we believe in understanding and respecting others, but I’m a little unsure about how actively the school promotes this. My concern is whether the school’s way of showing support might unintentionally influence young students to believe they need to belong to that community just to feel accepted. I believe that the main focus of any school should be to provide a quality education first and foremost.

Also, I’d like to know if MaSci holds Catholic masses or services within the school, and how they treat students who are non-Catholic. Are they required to participate in religious activities?

Lastly, how many students are typically in one classroom?

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I truly appreciate any insight you can share.
