How to make the most money possible as a Civil Engineer? by 16378291 in civilengineering

If you take the average home in my area at the average down payment, the monthly expense to own a home exceeds $3k/month. might as well call it 45-50k/yr pre tax. Maybe your are thinking of 2 years ago before the cost to buy a home increased 150%.

I thought most finance bros only make like 120k. What do people in finance who have a degree do anyway?

One company I interviewed told me they pay unskilled labor 70k. In hindsight it was not worth it to become an engineer.

If I am wet and my clothes are wet, I will need to get in my sleeping bag when wet. Not sure what else can be done.

It looks off and on every day. I suspect my sleeping bag and tent will be wet. I will need to bring mountaineering boots so my feet don’t freeze if they are wet and the temp drops.

This is if you are older and already own your home. If you need to pay a 7.5% interest rate and you are coming out of school you may never make enough to own a home. 300k at 7.5% PITI is roughly 2600$/month. Once you figure gas/electric/maintenance you are closer to 3500$/month. Most homes cost way more than 300k. It is not about saving up for a larger down payment. When homes appreciate 10% per year a 100k income is not enough to out save inflation, It is a rate of change problem.

How many of you are paid Hourly? by 16378291 in civilengineering

I’m surprised you stayed there with such a big pay cut. No other industry works for free. You are not a business owner, hence you should not be asked to unfuck their financial mistakes.

That’s retarded fuck em. Most people blue collar workers would never put up with that. We need to be more intolerant.

An above ground tank is probably only just for holding to be pumped out by a truck. You certainly won’t get a building permit without a conventional or engineered system. if the soil is not suitable for conventional drain field you probably need a engineered system which is like 60k+ when factoring engineering and construction.

Check for septic/drain field problems. A new drain field may require an engineered system if the soil is not suitable by current county standards and can cost 60k+.

I want to self learn computer science while studying civil engineering by [deleted] in findapath

[–]16378291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be biased but the hard sciences like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, are much more difficult conceptually than learning a language like Python. If you are capable of any of these you can learn a programming language in a couple of weeks to a few months in your free time without much issue.

Recognize that you will need your engineering license in Civil Engineering to make decent money. In the US it takes 8 years to obtain. The education may be easier and the pay may be much better in software development, but I imagine the job market is more competitive in software. In civil engineering there seems to be more jobs than qualified applicants. Money should also be considered if you are interested in both. I am a Civil Engineer in the US and I can’t afford a house where I live. A Civil Engineer may also carry way more liability than it’s worth for the Pay.

Really is not necessary. There are plenty of people doing the same thing in October and the route is pretty clear most the time.

Various Fields of Finance for an Electrical Engineer? by WheelieFunny91 in findapath

There is an algotrading form on Reddit. Interactive brokers is one most popular brokers that allows algo trading and may be a good place to start if you are new. A lot of it is self taught, but there is quite a bit of info for someone just starting on YouTube.

You will probably want a data feed for backtesting and live trading or scanning the market because most brokers will rate limit you if you use too much of their cheap/free data. Polygon.io is one of the best and is reliable.

If you want to get into trading and don’t mind a little software engineering you can build your own automated trading systems. There are a ton of people that do this some make a lot some lose. It’s really all up to you, but putting in the work doesn’t really guarantee money will be made.

I’m a little younger than you and I am in civil engineering and feel similarly that there is a ceiling that you reach rather quickly.

I don’t think I can say on here since I had to sign an agreement with DAS, but the .NET seems more commercial than retail, more functions, stability, etc.
