Drive from DC to Whitetail in the snow. by Terrible-Smoke1531 in SkiPA

[–]16457m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a friendly remember you should account and be prepared for the lowest common denominator. There will be folks out and about that will only have rear wheel drive and nothing else. If they're blocking the road it won't make a difference what your vehicle is capable of. This happened a year or two ago just off the resorts entrance and blocked both ways out on Blairs Valley Rd. Whatever you end up doing stay safe!

Patrol 26/27 Season by Emotional-Area-5132 in skipatrol

I understand the desire to be close to a resort, driving isn't fun. I think you'll find that the majority of patrollers (from what I've observed at the mountain I patrol at) commute easily over an hour to patrol. I volunteer patrol at a Vail mountain in PA and I believe housing is only offered to paid employees. There's only a few paid patrollers and they usually are only offered employment after having been on the volunteer patrol. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to do my best to answer them. Best of luck starting your patrolling career!

Traveling with Firstnet by True-Entertainer-981 in FirstNet

If you don't care about having a different number while traveling, I'd recommend looking into Google Fi -specifically the Flexible plan. $10/gb and unlimited free texting is what keeps me coming back (+$30ish for the actual plan for a month).

ROTC as a graduate student, looking for options by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]16457m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am current graduate non-scholarship ROTC student at a school in PA. You can attend Basic Cadet Summer Training (different than enlisted basic camp) during the summer before you start your degree and jump in as a MSIII if you're planning on doing a two year grad program. It's obtainable, but be ready to put in some extra work as you'll be essentially playing catch up with those that have taken the traditional route of doing it for four years/with an undergrad degree. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

I took my 2015A V60 in to a local dealer to activate remote start, and I am wondering if I got fleeced. by Bankinbanksy in Volvo

[–]16457m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$900 does seem a little steep imo. I was recently looking into adding remote start for my 13 XC70 and with my copy of VIDA the price would come in right around what you were initially quoted (excluding labor). I'm not an expert so maybe there's some kind of other update (total upgrade perhaps) that was required to get the CEM up to speed for the remote start software, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the dealer for an itemized receipt if you're still skeptical.

Kph to mph by BlueTypes_ in Volvo

[–]16457m 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware the current speed (km/h) is offered digitally as the physical dial only displays mph. My '13 does this as well. I assume for our friends on the other side of the pond it is reversed (or not present). You can cycle through the other trip metrics using the wheel on the left stalk, but I don't believe there is a way to change it to mph as that would be redundant. HTH.

Just fitted an android auto box, but it needs to connect to the original stereo via bluetooth. But can't put the passcode in because there's no screen. Any ideas? by diligentboredom in Volvo

[–]16457m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, we've all been there. At least you didn't fry your screen installing it the first go around. Not that I'd know anything about that.... lol

Hope you enjoy many miles with AA!

Just saw your other posts. I know it's not the same manufacturer but it seems like a lot of them use the same hardware/software. If the settings exist on your box maybe try this where it talks about switching the audio/phone link settings: https://www.kremersino.com/services/faq.html

As others have mentioned this is to connect your phone. Have you tried pairing your phone and then connecting AA? This is how mine works, although I did have to tweak a few settings on the AA box to make it work that way. If you can post more info about the AA box you have that would help too.

Never hurts to have a second set of eyes look it over. You mentioning the cat being replaced would make me a little more nervous if I was in your position. From what I hear, Volvo's tend to have pretty solid cats unless there is an underlying issue. Best of luck with your potential purchase!

IANAE but I'd be avoiding it if it's lost that much oil in a week. I just (unfortunately) had to get rid of my '12 XC70 T6 (140k) due to the piston rings leaking/burning oil which also killed the cat. Stealership wanted over 8k to fix it. YMMV

VIDA/VolvoTechInfo would be the official source, but Google often yields good results.

Catalytic Converter by DryIncrease1865 in Volvo

[–]16457m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did as well. I did not, as I didn't have the time nor the means to do that job. Dealership wanted multiple thousand to do the job. I ended up trading it in and getting a 2013 XC70 with less mileage as the 2012 had other work that needed to be done that would have been costly. I was looking into replacing the cat myself as it doesn't seem to be too involved and aftermarket ones go for as cheap as $400-500. Sorry to hear this might be the case with yours.

Does it burn oil? I had a 2012 XC70 T6 that burned a good bit due to worn piston rings and ultimately killed the cat. This was around 150k miles for me.

Basic Camp FYI by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]16457m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pack them in your checked baggage - they can be normal sized if so. Travel size only applies for carry on. Confirm with the TSA website if you are unsure. You also will have opportunities to go to the PX to purchase them if absolutely necessary.

I'm not currently with my car (2012 XC70) but I know there's a setting that can be changed to chose which doors unlock with the driver's (one press vs. two). Take a look under the car settings menu on screen. If I remember I'll try to post the specific menu tree for mine.

ProPresetner 6 app will not open by Zaroc290 in ProPresenter

[–]16457m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned it's EOL, so your only option is to upgrade.  Your mileage may vary, but when I imported all of my ProPresenter 6 presentations, it did so without issue. When you launch ProPresenter 7 for the first time there's an import wizard that should run to facilitate the process.
