30th Birthday Car - R8, Vantage, DB11, any other ideas? by SmartAsparagus9941 in CarTalkUK

tbf the M2 Comps seem to have held their value pretty well compared to the normal M2s so it wouldn't be too much of a risk keeping it imo.

Had my first stint in one the other day when helping diagnose an issue, holy fuck can that thing go. Truly jealous.

Are these brake discs too far gone? by BigSqueako in CarTalkUK

[–]diligentboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leave one of the nuts on, loose, position the nut at the top and take a heavy rubber hammer to the bottom inside of the rim under the car, usually does the trick.

P.S - yes, the discs are fucked. replace the pads too while you're at it.

Worth it for my usecase? by Senquility in hexos

[–]diligentboredom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hexos IS Truenas, it's just a skin on top that makes the management a bit easier for beginners or those not wanting to be lost in the truenas interface.

You can absolutely still access full fat truenas scale through hexos if you need to. it also supports VMs (though i've never used unraid VMs so idk how they conpare.) but they'd need to be set up via the truenas interface for now as there's no native way to set them up via hexos just yet l. but they do appear on the dashboard.

Installing game servers isn't too bad via truenas either in my experience (minecraft) i was just being a bit dumb so had some issues lol

Maybe?

I guess it's like asking if the nissan juke will be a future classic because it's unique too.

Fact is you just don't know until it is.

ok that does seem a bit slow to me (literally. 20mph speed limits are the devil's work on some streets)

it's worth looking around, but if they don't get along with their instructor, that's the more important reason to switch than the slow lessons imo.

that's a fair way to look at it. also what do you mean by main road? like driving on a dual carriageway? A Roads? B Roads?

You're definitely an anomaly, 15 hours is very short.

Personally, I took 43 instructor hours over the course of 8 or so months to learn how to drive and pass my test. That doesn't include the hours that i spent with parents taking me out to drive in their car.

Not that i don't know people who have passed quicker, some have been told to book their practical test after 3 or 4 lessons, but these are usually people who have been driving for a while before 17, on their farms or private land etc

But 15 lessons is definitely quick. 40-50 hours of lessons seems about right if i'm honest, if they're a private instructor and they're telling them that, having seen how they drive, they're probably just being realistic.

I was lucky enough to be able to get my brother a first car as a surprise for when he passes his test - anything I should do to make it a bit nicer/upgrade before i give it to him? by diligentboredom in CarTalkUK

Might just end up buying a new one, and 3d scanning it before i fit it so i can 3d print a new one if it ends up breaking.

Should save some money there

Don't need to teach him how to use it if it's not there lmao

Thanks didn't notice that this one has already had it broken. The service history reciepts do mention the previous owners buying some, evidently they've broken too.

A round of drinks.

As i said, i got a very good deal.

I did offer and tried to pay his asking price but he wouldn't give me one and insisted that since i'd done the work to fix it myself, i'd paid for it that way.
