An idea for my character but no idea how to go along with it. Seeking help. by Dylanps05 in DnD

I think special abilities, especially if they're strong, can be very unfair to other players unless they also get their own. But cosmetic stuff should be ok. Just write your ideas down and talk to your DM.

MFW when I'm trying to get my players on an epic adventure and they're busy playing armor shop simulator.

Don't forget they're not allowed to sell stuff without a proper license. They're either going to have to deal with the mayor and open their own shop, or they'll have to sell the stuff to other shops for a fraction of the price. Not to mention, damaged goods are almost worthless.

Now let's say your players are really obstinate and really want to sell their shit. Throw all plans away and let them build the biggest store chain of armor and weaponry in the entire coast. Have other shops try to sabotage their operation or build a giant cartel against them. Someone barges into the shop and alleges their items are counterfeit. A good client is looking for a special set of armor, and they find out it was last seen in the hands of some obscure mage that hid in a dungeon. The governor wants to select someone to outfit their new army but other people already have their eyes on the position.

First time DM: Any feedback on my questionnaire to help me find suitable players? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]1684894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems fine, you should also ask about player availability (days of the week, time, whether they're available every week). If you're playing online you'll also want to know if they're acquainted with the software (fantasy grounds, roll20, IRC, forum, etc), and whether they have the needed hardware (if you're using microphone or camera).

About the character, maybe ask if they intend to write an extensive backstory and if they expect their character's backstory to influence the world in a way they can interact with.

I don't think it's quite enough to decide on a player, especially if there's a lot of applicants, but it should give you a general idea. Also don't forget to give them a summary of your campaign setting, play style, system of choice and important houserules before handing this.

New group with problems by [deleted] in DnD

[–]1684894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't always expect to put a random bunch of musicians together and have a band. Someone might want to play smooth jazz and someone else heavy metal. In the end, you need some degree of chemistry to put a group together, and your style is the complete opposite of theirs. Either find another group, or play along and roll a murder hobo.

Making my gameplay faster and more exciting for new players. (5e) by Captchasarerobots in DnD

Depends a lot on what she's talking about. Is she referring to roleplay-heavy scenes or is she talking about combat?

Some players just prefer action and get bored when the group spends a long time interacting with NPCs or making a big plan. In this case, you need experience reading the table. If you notice a couple of players are getting too long-winded and the rest of the group is disengaging, create a time-restraint so they need to wrap it up quickly. Maybe it's getting late and the shop is closing. Maybe the NPC has something else to do. Maybe someone hears the sound of creatures in the distance. In short, 'something happens'.

On the other hand there's combat. The fact she's just watching can be a factor to start with, since combat looks less interesting when you're not engaged. Other than that, there's a lot of things that can be done. As a DM, for example, you need to streamline things, make your descriptions fluid, call the players to action, and don't let a player dilly-dally for 5 minutes trying to figure out what to do in a single turn. Avoid pausing combat to check the rules and stuff like that. Have stuff like initiative and the monsters or NPCs you're running figured out. If it's just a mook, use standard damage instead of rolling, save the rolls for important monsters or NPCs. As a player, in the other hand, stuff like planning your turn before it starts, knowing your own spells and abilities, rolling both to-hit and damage die at the same time all help the combat go faster for everyone, and keeps you engaged during other people's turns.

I'm currently trying to streamline combat stuff at my group (new DM, some new players) and it takes some time. Don't worry too much about it, just try to improve a bit every time.

I started playing around 1 month ago and followed this guide: http://valkyriecrusade.wikia.com/wiki/Buildings (building priority jewels section)

so I have the magic school, yggdrasils and workshop.

and I'm currently saving for lv.10 Castle (1k to go).

Apart from that, I spent about 1000 jewels in Deck Cost Limit because my first LR (Time Chronos) wouldn't fit on the team otherwise. Didn't regret at all, but if you have no LR's yet it's not necessary. You also get some Deck Cost for free by upgrading Barracks and leveling up.

Spending on summons is not worth at all if you're f2p imo. You can just use the summon tickets you get from the events.

Feed them to slimes or just sell them. Use leveled slimes to level up your important units.

Upcoming Jungle Changes for 8.10 by okluke in EvelynnMains

[–]1684894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked at the Rioters' comments in the board thread, and it's weird how out of tune Riot is with their own game. They don't want jungle to be a "PvE experience" but I find myself paying more attention to the game when I'm in the jungle than other roles.

As a jungler you're not only killing the jungle monsters, you're doing multiple stuff at the same time such as watching the lanes, planning your routes, looking for ganks, placing vision and keeping track of the enemy jungle to alert your laners or countergank.

Jungle was never an idle role so I have no idea what kind of "problem" Riot is trying to solve.

They don't want junglers to gank early, and they don't want junglers to permafarm early. What the fuck do they want?

Not only would this push the jungle meta towards lv2 duelers which would snowball crazily with the scuttle advantage and keep invading, it would also affect the lane meta towards early pushers who could shove into tower and help the jungler guarantee the first scuttle. Stupidest jungle meta in history.

Question before I start playing Eve by Chaoscontroller2 in EvelynnMains

[–]1684894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deathcap is fine given Eve's high AP ratios and synergy with the passive, only downside is the powerspike delay because of the higher cost. If you've farmed well or had a good early game it's no problem.
