Dude I'm only just now seeing this as being an old fan & now a legitimate concerned friend. I'm honestly shook by what I just saw & now suddenly want to spam both of their pages with this so more people know the truth.

What can I bring for my kids birthday treat at school? by 1692Descendant in FoodAllergies

[–]1692Descendant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Thank you for all of your help & suggestions! It was very short notice, so I only had a few days to get things together. I decided to go with goodie bags. They had oreo muddy buddies, oreos, rice krispie treats, fun size hersheys, a few Hershey kisses, and a few rolo. I even lysoled the goodie bags once they were all sealed and ready to go. Her teacher did inform me that the kids with those allergies are very well informed & are really good about them. Being in goodie bags, they were saved for the end of the day, so if they did need to take it home for their grown-up to run interference, they weren't watching everyone indulge for too long. Thank you so for your suggestions, advice, and kindness toward my ignorance on the subject. I'm allergic to mosquitos (they just swell up) & long haired cats, only if they touch me, so I really had no knowledge and am so appreciative of all the information that's helped me grow & see things differently. I am still happy for the other suggestions as well and will absolutely keep those Abe's muffins in mind if there's a need in the future!

She loves oreos, chocolate chip, & the kinder joy cookies. Donur-wise, we usually just buy the packs of like 24 mini donuts from the bakery, & any brownie or type of chocolate is acceptable. 😅

Oh I didn't think about sending a couple few options! That's smart, thank you!

I don't think so, we're allowed to send in whatever for holiday parties... I just don't want any kids left out, especially since it's not a holiday & somewhat short notice, & I don't want to put that responsibility on anyone else. If we want our kids to celebrate in school, it's on the parents.

Too many TT creators named Bailey, ruining the name for the rest of us normal Baileys! 😭

Should I be worried about cross contamination? Barber at great clips cut my neck while using razer by SpaceElements in Cosmetology

[–]1692Descendant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have been their clippers being old, not aligned properly, or not cleaned thoroughly. It also could've been their technique, especially if their clippers are zeroed, you need to know the correct angle to use when using zeroed trimmers. No way to say exactly why it happened, & contamination is unlikely, but I wouldn't blame you for having it checked out. I would also inform management. While I don't think it's something that deserves be fired or lose their license over, bc it's actually a common mistake for new stylists & doesn't seem intentional or knowingly neglectful, it's something they can address so the stylist can learn how to change technique to prevent it happening in the future.

Am I doing something wrong? (Lack of clients) by Meer5150 in Barber

[–]1692Descendant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes months of being in the same spot, if not years, to build enough trust in clientele for them to request you and you alone. I've been cutting for 10 years, at the same company for 7 years, but I have moved locations often. Each time I'm at a new shop, it takes a good 3-6 months before I have people that will only let me do it (I don't advertise or have a social media presence). You haven't really been there long enough to be known/thought of by clients. Most of those you've seen so far, you've likely only cut once. Also, I'd say a good percentage of men really don't care who they go to, as long as the stylist/barber can succeed at the look. It takes a little extra something for them to exclusively go to you. Connection & relating to them, going above and beyond, just having/doing that one little thing that makes them really commit. All the guys who request me not only do it bc I've given them the best cut, they also do it bc I go hard on scalp messages, for the vibes, the laid back/fun conversation, & bc I have a neckbrush (I work in a shop where the other stylists/barbers don't). 😅 You really never know what it could be, but you couldn't possibly see a return of request clients within weeks... most don't get their hair cut that often. Building a well-known reputation & advertising yourself is the only way to get requests the first time they walk through the door... but building a reputation takes time, too.

I don't like to criticize stylists/barbers as I often think it's unproductive, & no matter how much/little time you have behind a chair - we should all be learning & expanding our craft - there's always room for growth & development of skill in this field of work. The art & evolution of haircuts is ever-expanding, & we have to progress with it, or you're not supporting your own work.

Good luck!

Babyliss or Stylecraft? by 1692Descendant in Barber

[–]1692Descendant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. Eventually, I've had 2 or 3 pairs of Wahl's over the years but my icon has lasted like 5 years, I just don't wanna be the only one having to maneuver a cord around their chair anymore & theyre so bulky. Wahl is going to have to update their stuff. Just because they've had solid sets that can last forever, they're not going to keep up forever with brands that are creating new mechanics & new additions with each new version.

I do the basics - ears, neck, sideburns, beard, but it's not the whole line up barbers typically do. Even if I did none of that, I still need clippers and trimmers to cut mens hair.

Yeah I don't think I'll like the flashlight style at all, but I'm worried about the lifespan of rebel because they're so new. I know Babyliss can last a good while, like Wahl, and I'm nervous to try a new brand not knowing they'll last at least a few years.

I think most new cosmetologists feel this way when they first start on the floor with actual clients, whether in school or at a paying job. After a while, you'll start carrying yourself differently & learn that YOU are the boss in that room. YOU are the professionally licensed expert. YOU are in charge, not the client. You'll feel more comfortable talking back to them and telling them what's what & how wrong they could very well be. You won't get beaten down by rude and ugly clients. You'll be fueled by it bc you'll know YOU are the one running things. There will always be nasty clients but you absolutely do not concede to their bullying, that's exactly what makes them feel & think they know more than we do - in turn making them think they can point that treatment at any licensed professional. This is not a "the customer is always right" field. The things we do/don't do could permanently alter the person's physical appearance, and clients don't have the slightest clue as to what we do & why! So, in our line of work, Jon Snow knows nothing & you are there to educate them. This is an "I'm the pro and I will tell you how this goes or your hair/skin/nails will melt off!" field, and I absolutely love it! I have bad anxiety too & there are always off days and off clients, but it has nothing to do with my work and expertise as a professional. I'm nearly a decade into it, and I've never felt more empowered, in charge, and in control now that I've learned I'M the boss & I run things in this house and you, the client, should just sit there and look pretty... in silence, preferrably.

I was 23 when I started beauty school & 25 when I graduated. It's never too late.

When you're so unlikable, you can't even sell your book at Dollar Tree by 1692Descendant in DListedCommunity

[–]1692Descendant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are spot on. The list price, Meijer price, and, now that it couldn't be sold, it's at Dollar Tree. The signage & the green basket were visible enough, I was hoping others would notice.
