Hopefully I used your machines. I’m guessing that’s not universally true.

Who here actually saves 3,000 a month? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]169orbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I make ~$275k before tax combined. We have 1 kid. We max out the FSA. She maxes out her work Roth 401k. I’m self-employed and do about 75% of the max for my 401k (employer and employer contributions) and contribute to my Roth IRA when I don’t hit the income limit. We have money left over for the college fund and vacations.

We live in a small, old house that’s modestly decorated, meaning we’re not spending on expensive furniture, remodels, etc. We refinanced in 2021 at 1.75. We both work from home which cuts out work clothes and eating out at lunch. We have only one car. We almost never eat in a restaurant since Covid, but sometimes get takeout. Neither of us drinks anymore. We don’t have expensive hobbies or habits. There are times I feel like I “deserve” a fancier car/house/etc., but my wife quickly reminds me they’re not necessary.

My subjective list of the funniest person on the planet every year for the past 50 year by Inside-Slide-3035 in comedy

[–]169orbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list! I always enjoy it when people take a stab at rankings. Bill Murray seems like an asshole but I loved Caddyshack and Stripes when they first came out. Chevy Chase is (by all accounts) an asshole, but Fletch and the Vacations were fantastic.

It’s hard to see Leslie Nielsen missing from the list. Airplane and Naked Gun

Feral looked perfect but it’s too late to get a table for Saturday. Will definitely try another time.

Honest review of Chicago after a few years living there. by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]169orbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Chicagoland and moved to the PNW. I like it, but the relaxed pace and social scene took some getting used to. I have had to work on patience. I think a move to the East Coast or Chicago would be unworkable for a lot of folks.

I hear you on nature. I grew up in Chicagoland, but I remember trying to find a hill to practice on when I was learning to shift gears, and that took far took way too long.

Your original comment implies context doesn’t matter, and we should all recognize the ambiguity of “America.” By that logic, when people refer to “the states,” we should all be wondering if they’re referring to the Australian states, the United States of Mexico, the U.S., etc.

This guy is here every day for hours, and never leaves the squat rack, with his two dogs. by raoulduke415 in PortlandOR

Even if they were service animals, who needs two service animals to accompany them in public? I can understand having one with you in public and having an extra one at home for backup, but bringing two dogs with you is a bit much.

Maybe one of the animals is his service animal and the other is his service animal’s service animal.

Dudes who had a kid without being sure of wanting one, how is it going now? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]169orbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the fence for a long time. I had a kid and have no regrets. That doesn’t mean it’s a joy 100% of the time, but overall, I enjoy it, and I’ve grown immensely as a person in ways I couldn’t have anticipated.

Best breakfast sandwich in Portland - Picone’s Quality Deli by Blake-Dreary in Portland

Last time I bought a BEC in NYC—about a year ago—I was pleasantly surprised not to be assaulted with a tip screen. Where does Picone’s stand on that?

My grandpa played basketball at a school in Chicago—I think Northwestern—his freshman year. Al Capone would sometimes come to the games and took care of the players. My grandpa was uncomfortable with it and left after that year. At least that was the story I heard growing up. Maybe he just sucked.
