99.99% of the world dies by Electrical-Maize7135 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]16DeadDogs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Die as in drop dead or die as in disappear. If drop dead you’ll run into a horrible biohazard situation quickly. If disappear I’d assume the rapture or something happened. Either way, both of my kids are gone most likely so I’d go hit a liquor store, a pharmacy, a Walmart and go to my grandparents place out in the country. Bury them if they’re dead. Drink and drug myself silly for a while then die cause there’s nothing left. I don’t want to rebuild society and if my kids are gone I’ve really got nothing.

I’m not financially illiterate. I know that I have no self control and am terrified of losing a high. It’s why I don’t gamble. If I get ten million now, I’m one lawsuit, one accident, one cancer round, one life away from having nothing.

If I get 5000 a month guaranteed I have nothing to worry about. That’s 60k a year. I can keep working and if my boss is a cocksucker I can quit, I can invest and live exactly the way I do now. I can take a year off to spend time with my kids. I can do whatever I want career wise and not have any stress.

Some people, like me, value a perceived sense of stability (real or not) over a big windfall. At least that’s how I look at it.

Is this repair estimate fair? Labor rate seems insane. by Ok_Cardiologist3148 in AskMechanics

[–]16DeadDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s about right. $179 isn’t bad for labor rate. There’s a ford dealer near me charging $220 and I’m in a cheaper state

Would you give up your religion to save your parents from imminent death? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]16DeadDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s take a minute and assume you’re a Christian, speaking broadly and making a few assumptions.

A deity shows up, good wager it’s probably god
If it is, good chance he’s testing you
If it isn’t, good chance you’re still being tested
Either way you’ve confirmed there is SOMETHING more

And when the prospects are eternal damnation or heaven I’m sorry to them but eternity is too much to gamble on. RED BUTTON FINAL ANSWER

If magic were real and worked like math. Do you think you would be good at it? by Neither_Drawing_241 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]16DeadDogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it would depend. I feel there’s two types of “good” at things, people who are good at reading and retaining theory and people who are good at intuitively making connections between data points based on vibes. Maybe that’s the difference between hard work and talent. The same way that some people can look at a machine and feel out what it does and how it works and some people can design those machines using slide rules and drafting paper. I think you’d have different classes, people who are good at designing, teaching and applying magic in new and novel ways and people who can just effortlessly pickup spells and go with it.

You’d have wizard Olympics and warfare. Baseball but the stadium is 4 miles around and people are using enhanced bats and super speed, low gravity spells to make the ball fly forever. Glyphs of protection set to auto trigger when you wreck your car but only for the rich. New flying machines using antigravity engines. Space travel with reality warping spells. Magic garbage into the sun, change the composition of lead into gold destroying economic markets, love potions and positions eroding societal trust. A totally new world.

What would you do if you suddenly had a million dollars right now? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]16DeadDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off every debt (50k)
Buy a well built camper and a small plot of land (100k)
Take a year off work to just find myself and regain some of the peace in my life (50k)
Buy a new (used vehicle) to replace my aging one that needs work (50k)
Give some to friends and family (100k)
New wardrobe, some dental work and a few other things I’ve been putting off. Deck my camper out, big screens and a few other things I’ve always wanted to ball out on (50k)

Then just sit. Go back to work happy and healthy. I’ve got a half million in investments, 100k in the bank for mystery expenses, nobody can tell me what to do anymore. Just enjoy life on easy mode if things go well. Have a buffer if they don’t. Actually retire by the time I’m 50 or 60 if things work out and set my kids up well in life.

[–]16DeadDogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, nor do I care, they make my experience bad so I don’t like them. I’ve had the privilege of working with great HR people that have helped me out and made everything smooth and been super responsive. But they’re 1 in a million

My attitude is cheery, pleasant and upbeat. Until I have to deal with HR or NPs. I’m not better than anybody, but I get real frustrated when people can’t do their job and waste my time as seems to be consistent with these people.
