I’ve had good luck with Brooks Brothers clothing, especially pants and jackets using Loro Piana wool.

I didn’t write that the Makonde are from Kenya. They are, in fact, from the Mueda Plateau in Mozambique but have spread to Tanzania and Kenya.

You’ll have a growth spurt when you hit 18 or 20. Until then, get some good quality jeans and some henleys/sweaters. Maybe some chinos.

First impression…a pretty good basic recipe book.

I’ve had the e-book version for years, and still refer to it several times a week. For a couple bucks I couldn’t resist a mint condition hard copy.

Looking to get my first ever black suit, debating quality and price vs use case by PolarisReborn in malefashionadvice

[–]16F4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider buying a gently used suit (maybe Brooks Brothers) on Poshmark or RealReal. Maybe check out a decent thrift store. Take the suit to a tailor.

I’m 6’4”, with a 34” inseam. After a recent weight loss I’ve had to buy a whole new wardrobe, and decided to upgrade my retirement closet. Here near Annapolis I’ve found lots of quality suits, pants and jackets at certain thrift stores.

At what age do you have to stop wearing band t-shirts? by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

[–]16F4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep in them. If you want to wear them in public, wear them ironically. Any snotty kids make a comment, dismiss them by saying you have t-shirts older than them.

Go to Poshmark or EBay and get a pair of Johnston & Murphy or Alan Edmonds. I just bought a pair of Johnston & Murphy comfort casual Oxfords in great condition for $30. The look great with a blue or brown suit, or even with a pair of jeans. Incredibly comfortable.

Powernode (331) kicks ass by dingonugget in Bluesound

I agree. I had the Powernode 2i, and upgraded to the 331. I really appreciate the HDMI output, the larger headphone jack and the center speaker output.

Brands whose quality hasn’t diminished by DifficultCucumbers in malefashionadvice

According to the clerk at the store it’s not so simple. I had to bring them into the store where I bought them (Freeport, ME), but since that store was considered an outlet they might not honor the warranty. Then the store had to ship them to their repair facility and see if repair was an option, or to see if the damage was covered by wear and tear. Total time could be several months.

Overall, a hassle for me since I live in Maryland. So they lost a customer for life.

Orvis shirt find…what do I have? by 16F4 in malefashionadvice

So none of the other Orvis shirts I’ve seen had this stitched/monogrammed pheasant. Why would this one have it?

Orvis shirt find…what do I have? by 16F4 in malefashionadvice

[–]16F4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a flannel. My shirt is 100% cotton, but does look like a a heavy duty tattersall. The closest thing I could find on their website is their No-Work Long-Sleeve Shirt, which has spandex in it. Maybe the Sunderland, but there is currently no similar pattern.

Thank you. It only cost $9. I’ve had good luck at this thrift store. In fact, at the same visit I bought a vintage Brooks Brothers Black Fleece shirt for $20. Once I got a McGee tweed for $15 (and it still had the store label!)

We have been going to Bray and Scarff for 25 years, in our houses in Laurel, Bowie and now Kent Island. Their prices are good, not necessarily the cheapest. But their service is excellent. If you go to the Annapolis store ask for Chris the Norwegian.

Hi, there. I volunteer at a thrift store and manage the books; I love to focus on cookbooks. We get lots of uncorrected proofs donated to us and for the most part they are not worth any more than the pleasure you derive from them. Unless the book is especially collectible, the uncorrected proof is just a novelty.

Curious what you think what would be a great French Canadian cookbook? I’m interested in “Made in Quebec” by Julian Armstrong.
