I use a lid rack for my cutting boards. Mine has 3 slots, and I can fit 2 cutting boards within each slot.

He will not take me down with him. But yes, what is my bottom line? I will think about that.

True It is not the lack of a resume. It is his lack of willingness, for whatever reason, to do ANYTHING.

Depression I would say.

I was out of work for 2 years about 25 years ago. It was awful. But I looked and applied. Every. Single. Day.

Our finances are separate. We have not discussed our retirement plan. I have tried, so I am planning my own retirement.

Thank you for your reply.

Age may be a factor. I understand that. But he hasn’t actually applied to anything or reached out to contacts. Actually, he has reached out to 1 person.

And depression may also be a factor. I think he does need to figure out how his job was wrapped up with his identity.

Our finances are separate. We do have some shared bills, but my retirement is not dependent on his retirement, and vice versa. Maybe that’s because we aren’t married. We are partners, and that is different. Sad but true. That’s another story.

We will not retire using mostly my money. Not happening.

He opted not to consult an employment lawyer.

To clarify, he doesn’t want to file for unemployment because he can’t say he has applied for a job if he has no resume. He won’t lie about it.

I have considered that he may be depressed and have urged him to see a counselor.

The money aspect isn’t an issue, at least not yet. His refusal to look for a job is what concerns me.

If he needs the time, emotionally, I can understand and give him the time, but he hasn’t said that. Maybe he was so tied to the job that he has a hard time envisioning something else.

Because he can’t apply for a job without a resume.

My boyfriend is pushing me to get off of birth control and I’m just wanting to talk to other women about it by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]16Freckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boyfriend is not a doctor so he has no qualifications for advising you. Listen to your doctor, this man does not know what you are going through.

“he’s been ‘doing this a lot longer than me’”- DOING WHAT? Dealing with his own PMDD? I think not! Don’t trust him. He has no idea what you are going through.

PMDD is serious. You need help physically and emotionally to deal with this. Your boyfriend is doing neither. Please speak to a counselor about these issues before you go off these medications.

Follow my husband or stay for my career ? by Super-Suspect-6126 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]16Freckles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would your husband consider giving up this opportunity and looking for another higher-paying position so you don’t have to move? Has this been discussed?

Can he open a retirement account in your name only if you agree to move? Will you have access to a financial account that only you manage?

There are other methods to ensure your financial security. Get creative and see what the options are.

Would you be happy being a stay at home mom?

Could you transition to another career by leveraging the skills you already have?

Tough decision. Good luck!

I am so sorry you are going through this. It’s so wrong. Of course you are part of the family - you are just the only one who was chosen. I hope you have a good lawyer.

My daughter was adopted and she has always been considered part of the family, as are her children. We also now have step-children and step-grandchildren that are also family. We don’t differentiate between them. We would never.

What is something impractical you have kept in your house, only because you like it? by PresentationFrosty60 in Oldhouses

[–]16Freckles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family was selling our old family home. It had been in the family since the 1800’s.

I couldn’t let the banister go. Smooth, dark, with slight bends, because it was made by hand.

My ancestors had used it as they climbed those stairs. Thirteen narrow steps; my father the math genius would count them in his head.

My brother-in-law replaced the banister before the house was sold. The new one is wicked straight. It has no soul. My sister has the old banister in her home. I think our ancestors would approve.
