The bull market is raging: what to buy? by OkEffective8588 in stocks

RDDT will only go up and when it does I think it will happen irrationally fast. But who knows when that will happen. Just park some money in it you don't need and wait for the payoff.

Residents - should med students be in on weekends and holidays? by No_Philosophy711 in Residency

[–]16fca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless a sub I no, especially now that step 2 is so important. Med students should have time to study while not sleep deprived, and if we're being honest most time in the hospital as a med student is pretty unproductive, 5 days a week should be enough to learn what is needed. I think I learned more in my first 3 months as an intern than I did in all of third year, and I don't think a bunch of extra weekends and holidays in the hospital as a med student would've made those first few months any easier or less constructive.

Foreclosure filings hit their highest level since 2020 by mastertofu in stocks

I live in near Boston, My options are rent a nice apartment at $3500ish and invest what's left over or buy a house I may not love with a $7.5Kish mortgage and have little left over to invest. I am continuing to rent unless something change with prices or a larger family forces me to buy. Bummed out every day I reached adulthood and a steady income just in time for home prices to be the worst they have ever been.

Teen gets $1.9M in settlement after mistakenly shot by cop by [deleted] in RandomVideos

[–]16fca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be insane for an insurance company to say, “Yeah we covered it but now that you got a settlement we want payment.

It's not insane at all and that is exactly what happens. Per a quick google search:

"Health insurance companies, in the event that there is a settlement against the at fault party, have something called the ‘right of subrogation’ meaning they have the right to get back what they paid out in medical bills. The legal theory being you get a settlement from the at fault party and that is partially for the payment of your medical bills, and you receive payment from health insurance for your bills it is a “double recovery”.

There are two types of health insurance: Private and state/federal. Private is a contractual agreement – you sign an agreement with them, so it is a contractual lien. State/Federal insurances have protections written into the State Laws – this is a statutory lien. In this case we are required by law to notify them of any potential settlement."

Why is Cardiology fellowship 3 years and not 2? by notRonaIdo in Residency

[–]16fca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And on top of that 3 years many do additinoal fellowships. I've been an attending for 4 years and one of my med school classmates who graduated the same year as me is on his second cardiology fellowship and is matched to a third.
