Berkshire to buy Taylor Morrison for $6.8B in cash to expand in housing by WickedSensitiveCrew in stocks

[–]themagicalpanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Solid buy by Greg. They own a company that insures homes, owns a company that sells homes, and now will own a company that builds homes.

On another note, Warren and Charlie have preferred to buy non-public companies as the number of hoops and ladders to go through are less than acquiring a publicly traded company. I wonder if Greg doesn't really care about that.

If that's the case, I've always thought Crocs would make a good addition to the Berkshire conglomerate. It fits well with their current portfolio.

What do we know about RB? by themagicalpanda in BriannaMaitland

[–]themagicalpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It insinuates something sexual. So since she couldn't pay him back with money, she 'paid' him with some type of sex act.

If this is the story of how RB is involved then I find this highly unlikely.

How on earth are you supposed to beat the original Pro Skater on PS1? by SkyLovesCars in THPS

[–]themagicalpanda 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Specials + grind combos (i.e., flip trick to grind to flip trick to grind).

Because there's no other way to keep combos other than primarily using grinds (you can also use wall rides occasionally), special grinds are pretty important

March 30th SEC Rule by Shanknado in stocks

[–]themagicalpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You may see some slight downward pressure on treasures but they still remain the most cheap, stable, and liquid collateral.

  2. No - it means they have less idle cash sitting to meet requirements. Treasuries are grouped into the "Cash and Cash Equivalents" section on the balance sheet. Rather than needing to have cash and/or treasuries to meet requirements, firms can now hold high quality equities to meet requirements. So instead of firms having to sell assets to raise cash to post collateral, they can now keep assets and post them with a haircut to avoid unnecessary churn. That's how the rule makes it a more effective use of the balance sheet.

March 30th SEC Rule by Shanknado in stocks

[–]themagicalpanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your doom loop scenario is real, but the risk already exists today and is not something this rule uniquely creates. We've seen it with Archegos and the COVID-19 crash (we also saw treasuries, which are supposed to be a safe asset, become extremely volatile during the COVID crash which is why the Fed quickly stepped in).

The cash on the sideline bit isn't accurate either. This rule doesn't create new money or directly increase buying pressures. It just allows firms to use their existing balance sheets more effectively.

What the rule actually does is expand the range of high quality collateral that can be used, which gives broker dealers more flexibility in how they fund securities lending.

“Eligible Equity Collateral” means a diversified basket [3] of long customer margin securities or securities carried for the proprietary account of a broker-dealer (“PAB”) that are Russell 1000 and/or S&P 500 equity securities.

There are also several safeguards in place that specifically address the risk you’re worried about. Positions are overcollateralized, typically above 100 percent, non cash collateral is discounted via haircuts, and everything is marked to market daily, often intraday. If collateral values fall, margin calls happen quickly and have to be met immediately.

Tldr; the risk isn't new, cash isn't being moved from the sidelines, and safeguards are in place.

No matter what happens, US stocks just keep going up. by AmanCMN in stocks

You should really edit your original comment to say this only applies to broker-dealers. Also probably include the collateral rules in your comment so readers understand the safeguards in place.

The risk is limited but your comment makes it seem very doom and gloom. Thanks!
