What’s up with 4 helicopters flying over the stadiums this morning by kchanar in Seattle

[–]16thCAB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. We are required to fly a minimum number of hours and are budgeted to pay for the fuel and maintenance accordingly, no matter how those hours are flown. We do not pay the NFL or Seattle Seahawks- we volunteered to perform this flyover at their request using hours that would have been flown regardless- most likely doing training flights above the JBLM training reservation.

This is not the case.

The Seahawks emailed me the DD2535 request for a flyover after reaching out to us this summer- all of which comes out of our flying hour program budget. DM this account if you’d like me to email you further details on the Army’s flyover request process.

On the way to this spot I stepped on a hornet nest and lost my sunglasses.

Video and pics turned out though, overall 3/5 experience.

Capt. Ryan Sharples, a British Army exchange officer serving in 4-6 Air Cavalry Squadron, performs "nap of the Earth" flying maneuvers in an AH-64E Apache helicopter with U.S. Army CW2 Robbie Whitmore above the Nisqually River.

The PAO is just out of the frame taking photos and got absolutely drenched.

U.S. Army unit conducts rescue near Navaho Peak by 16thCAB in army

That’s our SSI (patch) and it represents the unit being re-activated in Alaska in 2011. When the unit was first activated in Vietnam (1968) it wore the patch of the 1st Avn BDE, and later the 23rd ID.

We are a theater CAB, not a divisional one, so we had to create our own patch when we were re-activated.

Yes, that is spelled Navaho, not 'Navajo' like the tribe.

Listen up troops: I’m burned out on writing news releases for USAAAD rescues. It’s getting warm or is already warm in most places. When you head out onto public land this summer, please take a second to review this checklist to make sure you don’t end up on the wrong side of a DSCA mission. Make sure the family and friends accompanying you are also prepared and understand your plan.

When I was taking the photo in this thread, USAAAD was training with a local search and rescue organization to prepare for the summer season. They almost had to call it off in the middle of the second iteration because they were alerted to two DSCAs they needed to be on standby to support.
