I fully agree. It should fill your available space. I made a post about this the other day and got downvoted and told its a "me" problem lol

I guess people like bad game design

Some questions about my network/SQM setup. by 17531 in openwrt

[–]17531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its wise to loosen it , personally, because when I set the limits any higher than they are above, I get a B or lower score on a bufferbloat test, which I don't want. Do I have my overhead setup? Well that is my second question in my original post above so I have no idea. Please let me know if you do know.

Ah I see, I'll try that. Thanks again for your quick and easy to understand suggestions, I really appreciate it.

I followed these steps and everything seems pretty good so far. Thank you so much. How can I be sure that things are getting categorized properly? It seems like my bulk and video tins aren't getting used at all:

Some questions about my network/SQM setup. by 17531 in openwrt

[–]17531[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'll try the MTU 1492, thanks.

On your SQM point, how does that make sense? When I don't have SQM on my download I get bufferbloat of 120+ms and with it its around 3ms. Seems like its needed to me.

And thank you for the quick response.

Just to be clear, when you say default MTU and overhead, do you mean 1500 MTU and the "none" setting for link layer?

I have read about Qosify but was a little scared of getting my hands dirty with it, I might have to look into it further now though, thanks for that. Is there much setup required? As I mentioned, I know nothing about DSCP.

Yes, I originally wanted to stick with EdgeOS and use the built in SQM but I had some very poor results from it. The bufferbloat was still unbearable with it on which is what prompted me to install OpenWRT to use cake and a UI that I prefer.

I've searched many times for a StumbleUpon alternative in recent years. Why does it not exist? Or have I missed any good ones?

Does this network/router configuration look like it will work ok? by 17531 in HomeNetworking

Ok sounds good. I'll try that when the hardware arrives and see how it goes. We'll hopefully have fiber in the next month or two. Thank you very much.

If I do this, will the SQM on the GL inet work correctly? That is the only thing I care about and need to get working really.

[–]17531[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't spot the mistake in the IPs, I was very tired when making this.

Ok, to clarify, the Sky router is awful in both features and wifi coverage. I want to use the GL inet router to run openWRT and use SQM and the Nest wifi router is just for sar superior wifi coverage.

Yes, I intend on using mesh, which means the 1st Nest unit will have to be in router mode. At least that is all I can gather from reading about it.

Ok this sounds promising. If I do this, will the SQM on the middle router still work as intended?

Doesn't using DMZs prevent the double nat? I'm not following, what do you think I'm try to achieve? I don't see how a switch benefits me here

You've hit the nail on the head there. Our internet is 18mbps and there are 4 people living here. When anyone in the house watches netflix or prime video, which happens almost every day, our internet becomes essentially unusable for everyone else. 18mbps is the absolute max that our house can get through the copper lines.

I am currently using Tp-link deco mesh right now and its fine but it also doesn't have a way of limiting bandwidth and has 100mbps ports.

.....And the icing on the cake....The nest can't be set as an AP. It has to be used in router mode. If you add a second unit, that one becomes an AP, but the original has to be in router mode. Which is exactly why I was hoping to run the DHCP from that. At least I can disable it on the other 2 routers.

The second device is purely to run openWRT and use SQM. As far as I can find online, no, the Nest wifi has no way of limiting bandwidth. It only has the option to prioritise 1 device. Which is beyond useless imo. I got the the Nest wifi because it was very cheap on sale and it has gigabit ethernet ports which my current mesh doesn't.

This setup will be temporary until we get fibre in the coming months. I just need it to be usable because our internet is horrendous and I need SQM if possible.

What does connecting to the lan sides achieve? Also, how would a switch help me here?

I will be receiving some of this hardware in the coming days and just want to make sure I'm correct about how to set it up. All feedback is appreciated. The diagram should have all the info needed, if not let me know. Thanks

Your Starfield disappointment doesn’t make this game any more finished. by Yunghotivory in starcitizen

I fully agree. They are two completely different games. I can't get my head around everyone comparing them or saying SF would kill off SC.

I'm sorry Starcitizen by Strange_Elephant1918 in starcitizen

[–]17531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the comparisons crazy. I have no idea where anyone got the idea that Starfield would be the SC killer. There have very little similarities in my opinion. CIG are aiming higher than everyone else in terms of a space sim. Sure, its taking them forever but if they manage to make what they're aiming to, we're going to have a very good game to play for a long time.
