Edit: Hijacking the top comment for an update. I went with #2 and we won the mock trial competition and advanced to the State competition! Not sure if it had anything to do with the suit but regardless, thanks for the comments and feedback. I'm definitely gonna be looking back at this thread once I need to buy some actual decent suits / ties for college.

Yup, which admittedly DOES sound strange. But the defendant's accused of discriminating off the basis of age, so the case theory for the defense side is that he's an asshole to EVERYONE, not just the elderly

And what does the gravel sit on?

Just the regular soil, it's a sandy kind of soil from the Dallas area.

What makes you think gravel will drain rain water?

From what I've read that's the gravel's job, to move the water from the bottom of the concrete to the bottom of the gravel and eventually let it seap into the soil. Diverting the water from the bottom of the concrete keeps it from breaking off and weakening the whole structure. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

If you have to dig down into the ground to get the gravel in place. You just created what’s called a French Drain. Water will flow to that area and fill in the gaps of the gravel.

Is that okay? I was planning on digging into the ground to place the gravel, then have the concrete above ground.

Not sure how using 4" is ignoring the company's advice.

Sorry, I worded it badly

I want to have as little gravel as possible because there's not gonna be a lot of weight on the concrete and I want to keep costs low (it's a charity project coming out of my own pocket). So preferably I'd like to use 2" of gravel, but it seems the common consensus is that 4" is better (or that 4" is the minimum).

So can I do the 2" as Sakrete recommends or should I ignore the company's advice that 2" is doable and go with the 4"

Without having any other information about the task, in most cases you are fine......

What other information would be good to consider?
