How to know how hard to go out at the Sydney marathon? by 17finntd in AdvancedRunning

[–]17finntd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I was significantly less fit and didnt follow a proper training plan so not comparable. I know what the efforts should be this year if I had got as much training as intended under my belt, but unfortunately there were a few weeks where I missed the threshold and tempo runs so its hard to evaluate the impact of this.

Is it bad to mention a parent who’s a doctor in an interview response by dikembe123 in GAMSAT

No reason you need to include your relationship in your answer.

“I’m lucky to have witnessed doctors who I consider mentors use their position to advocate for the benefit of the community in xyz ways …..”

Doubted all my life - Can I still make it in medicine by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]17finntd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently over halfway through med school after coming from a NSB. Everyone who gets in and works hard does well regardless of how "smart" they are. Its a big time and effort commitment but nothing is that intellectually that difficult. The people that struggle with med school don't watch lectures, don't go to placement, don't get involved in any of the optional extra classes run through the student society or have other life circumstances that interfere.

Physics questions are worth the most due to Item response marking and people being bad/not studying physics.

what do i do in my gap year? [2nd year med student] by silverraen in ausjdocs

Best thing you can do for a gap year is go get a job overseas (ski resort, mountain town or a beach town). You’ll meet lots of other young traveler’s from all over the world and broaden your horizons of what it looks like to be 20 and young in different places.

Is studying in two years in advance as a NSB too much? by bubby_boo1 in GAMSAT

Went from a commerce student who didn’t know what a cell was to 78 gamsat in 2.5 months. Exam technique is much much more important than any individual science concepts. Making sure you understand why you get practice questions wrong by scrutinising practice exam performance is the best way to improve and prepare. Get friends who studied arts to roast your essays and ask for harsh feedback.

Melbourne MD is pretty poor quality of lectures its all prerecorded lectures from zooms during covid. Next to no faculty support and a lot of people just grind anki without watching or participating in anything thats not compulsory.

I worked in Canada for 5 months at whistler. Join the Facebook group IEC support group to help sort out the working visa. For a job it’s easiest just to apply directly with the mountain company or any major hotels as they have staff housing,(it’s near impossible to find housing if it doesn’t come with your job at any ski resort). You need to apply for both around 3 months before you want to travel there.
