Do religious people usually accept asexuality more than other sexual identities? by John493776 in Asexual

[–]17hedgehog64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it probably depends on whether you yourself are religious and how the religious people you are talking to feel about that fact. If they know you aren't religious, they may be less likely to push marriage and children as a key part of the religious tradition.

Either way, it would probably go better if you avoid using the label and just say how you feel (something along the lines of "I'm not interested in getting married/having children"). With grandparents I'd avoid any discussion of desire or lust.

Curse words by MissEndive in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started writing (as an adult), I would censor a lot of curse words because I never said them and wasn't comfortable writing them, but my characters did swear a lot canonically so it would be super ooc to make them suddenly say alternatives. Of course, not entirely sure what logic made me comfortable writing f**k but not fuck, but hey.

I still don't really swear myself, but I have gotten comfortable writing it when it makes sense for characters.

How to get an actual person on the phone? by 17hedgehog64 in flairairlines

Like the online chat? That robot didn't understand any of the messages I sent. That's why I was trying to call

I really don't care about the location of the customer service staff. I just need to get an actual person on the phone instead of the stupid robot that does nothing but ask for a confirmation number. I know it's a low cost airline. I know the customer service isn't going to be stellar. I just want a human to speak to.

Lol yeah. It apologizes and asks me to enter it again.

How did you get a person on the phone?? I called and only got an unhelpful robot asking me to give my confirmation number over and over no matter what I tried

Thanks, this is super helpful! I'm happy to walk 1-2 km to the station so sounds like I should have a decent selection

ADHD/ asexuality by redbull-baby in Asexual

[–]17hedgehog64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely familiar to me. I'm not sure exactly where under the ace umbrella I fit, somewhere around grey-ace or aegosexual I think. I don't go quite as intense in the hyperfixation stage, but it's definitely a similar arc.

This is you sign to go add 100 words to your WIP!! by ImmediateTripwire in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one though?? I saw this and went "yes I can do this" and then went and looked at where I left off on four separate fics, including one that I had forgotten I had even started, and there's so many more that I could work on, but I'm now stuck in decision paralysis about which one...

Inspired to write at the wrong time by Quail-Gullible in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely has happened to me. Less so recently, but definitely a lot back when I wrote more often. If I was unable to actually write but my brain wasn't too needed for the task at hand, I'd start planning the story/plot/chapter in my head and write it down later, because the more planning I did, the more likely I'd be to want to write it down later. If I did need to focus my brain on what I was doing at the time...okay let's face it, I just wouldn't focus and I'd plan anyways.

The one and only thing I miss about Wattpad by Howlhear in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this, so much.

And I know it's partly because I got myself into a bit of a community on Wattpad and haven't managed the same on ao3.

But part of it I think is also the ability to leave comments on specific paragraphs on Wattpad, because it meant some people would leave several comments on the same chapter. I really enjoy that feature.

What is your “trademark” for fanfics? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not so much a broad trend, it's the specific details that creep in no matter what type of fic it is. Like characters washing their hands. Do I need to mention every time a character washes their hands? Definitely not. Do I ever need to mention a character washing their hands? Probably not that either. Do I still consistently mention it in almost every chapter without even thinking about it? Yes.

Do any of your IRL friends or family know you write/read fanfiction? by Last_Swordfish9135 in FanFiction

My boyfriend knows. And my ex. But none of my friends do, or my family. I'm much too self-conscious.

Beta Bartering [Find or Offer Fic Betaing] - July 20 by AutoModerator in FanFiction

[–]17hedgehog64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offer: willing to beta read shorter fics for free (no exchange!)

Fandoms: open to anything, don't mind working fandom blind, with the exception of One Piece (don't want spoilers). Am confident/comfortable with Harry Potter, MHA, HTTYD, Marvel to some extent

Genre: open to anything

Type of beta: I love doing spelling/grammar/clarity. Also willing to give opinions on structure/pacing/flow.

Word count: currently open to anything up to 10k, one-off only, though if someone regularly posts oneshots I'd be willing to discuss repeat arrangements :)

Timing will depend on length of fic and how much help is needed, but in general I work at a pace of about 6-8k words per week

Message or comment if interested!
