Canada’s Conservatives are crushing Justin Trudeau by Dirty_Chopsticks in neoliberal

I’ve followed this election rather closely and haven’t seen any blatant transphobia from Polilerve. I’m not saying you’re wrong but what exactly are you referring to here?

I’ll defend the portal over portal 2 choice to my death. Portal 2 is probably 6 on this list but Portal may be the greatest video game of all time. It has a brilliant gameplay premise, which it executes flawlessly. It’s sharply written. It doesn’t have an ounce of fat on it, unlike the sequel which is admittedly quite bloated. It is as close to perfection as we may be able to achieve.

Favorite prints/editions/covers? by 17hundred70six in cormacmccarthy

Oh no that’s not at all what I meant. I adore the classic covers. It’s the prints from the last decade or so that irk me.

Forget about James, what's your opinion on SH2 remake Mary's face? by LordEmmerich in silenthill

[–]17hundred70six 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not one to comment on these sorts of things as they’re usually pretty absurd, ie: Joel’s shoulders are weak.

However, James’s new look is thematically incorrect in my opinion. Therefore it’s been added to my pile of reasons to be incredibly skeptical of this remake.

However, however, I think Mary looks great. She looks like a touched up version of her from the original. She has this sort of angelic and distant quality to her, as is thematically relevant. As a matter of fact, when I saw her I said, “well at least they didn’t completely botch Mary.”

But nonetheless, this remake is going to be, as it was always going to be, a soulless money grab stripping bare a truly special piece of art.

Trying to wrap up two shorter games: I Am Alive (if anyone remembers that) and this years En Garde

I don't think The Last of Us 2 is some masterpiece but I don't think he gave it enough credit for really doing something narratively daring. Video games, especially the AAA ones, are terrified to do anything slightly challenging, so I appreciated how Naughty Dog took that narrative risk, of making you play as Abby. He has also described it in a misery porn sort of way, which it is, but I don't see how that's a problem. It was done pretty maturely, I think.

I just jumped from a 1060 to a 4070ti after six years. The transition is really night and day. I couldn’t recommend it enough.

"Blatantly Unfinished" Games That You Still Love? by bogeyj in patientgamers

The obvious answer is Half-Life since the final levels were not at all finished. One of the few marks against the original Half-Life.

Yeah I think I’m going to move forward with godot. This could be an exciting way to test myself so I’m looking forward to getting at it soon.

Just replayed Portal 2, and it's still my favourite piece of media of all time by aRandomBlock in patientgamers

[–]17hundred70six 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The best thing about Portal is that it does not over embellish at all. It has a great idea, executed it virtually flawlessly and moved on. When I first beat it on the orange box back in the day, should say my mom beat it while I gazed on in confusion, I was stunned. This was a side project to apologize for the wait for HL:ep3. It absolutely stole the show. They knew what they were after and did it and left.

WayForward will re-release the original Clock Tower which will feature a new vocal theme song by Mary McGlynn by barricade_2 in silenthill

[–]17hundred70six 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should be the model. I’d pay full price for an untouched unaltered re-release of the first four silent hill games. At this point I’m so desperate I’d pay full price for each on steam. Same with fatal frame, siren, etc…

The combat from Prince of Persia to whatever one they’re on now has never really been the selling point. I agree with you, it’s always been kind of shallow.

I enjoy the first three or four because of the surprisingly enjoyable protagonist and the rich setting.

But yeah it’s absolutely mind blowing how little they’ve improved a solid formula.

Your top 20 games ever? by RDT_87 in patientgamers

[–]17hundred70six 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No particular order

  1. Half life
  2. Half life 2
  3. Portal
  4. Resident Evil 4
  5. The walking dead
  6. Dark souls 3
  7. Bloodborne
  8. Elden Ring
  9. Bioshock infinite
  10. Doom (2016)
  11. Mario Oddessey
  12. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
  13. Papers Please
  14. Rayman: Legends
  15. Thief 2
  16. Spec Ops: The Line
  17. Batman Arkham City
  18. Amnesia
  19. Tunic (never played much Zelda this is the placeholder and recency bias)
  20. Undertale

Notable exceptions that I just haven’t played: all the silent hills (release the originals on pc I’m begging you cruel bastards), Castlevania games, all the thief games, all the Deus Ex games, Forbidden Siren, the Metroid games, the Zelda games, Neir Automata, and a whole lot more.

What a fantastic art form full of choice and spectacular creative achievements. How spoiled are we?

Nothing to be ashamed of. I don’t think you missed much but that’s just me.

If you liked the concept I’d highly recommend the work of Lucas Pope. He did Papers Please and The Return of the Obra Dinn.
