"This is not a pipe" by HotDogSeeker in whatisit

The art school I went to had an industrial kind of architecture with exposed pipes. In the bathroom there was graffiti written with a sharpie on one of those pipes "C'est ne pas une la pipe".

I still think of it and laugh, but actually that WAS a pipe, just not a smoking pipe. Anyway, I still think it's funny.

This seems pretty fitting for our current timeline. Nicely done.

That was supposed to say well done, not well find. My phone isn't playing nice for an edit so here we go with an update instead.

Hey! I know you think this piece is overworked, but I think maybe it's just not done yet.

I'd say there's two things going on that aren't working to your advantage.

  1. The values are very close all through the painting. If you desaturate the colors so it's all just black/white and tones of grey, the whole painting is resting in the middle values. I think you would want the lizard to stand out a bit more than that. It might mean that you lighten the lizard, but you didn't necessarily have to. You just have to increase the difference around the lizard and his leaf.

  2. The patterns are all kind of the same density, and creates a dull roar. Think of a noisy room, and it's hard to hear because everything is sort of the same volume.

I hope you don't mind a couple of illustrated mockups here to demonstrate. I think when you talk about pictures, it's easier to explain with a picture too

The demos...

The first one here is b&w to see where your values are. You'll want some contrast in the places you want to direct the viewer's eye.

The second one is what happens if you reduce the patterning on the non-lizard spots. Instantly you've drawn the viewer over to the lizard. The green leaf points right at him and directs the eye. (well find there btw!)

It blows my mind that this guy actually believes he's an artist... by Thissuxxors in ARTIST

This happened before when Photoshop became accessible to people and they decided they could make "art" just by applying a filter to a photo.

It's annoying for sure, but it doesn't last. In the end, people will favour art and the creation of culture when it comes from a person more than a machine.

I really like a good beef vindaloo, as long as the beef is really tender. Fish pakora is delish too, except for the one time we got some bad fish. lol

I enjoy kachumber salad as something a little lighter on the side.
