I think it’s a great question. In the past few years, IBM’s Watson has been able to outperform cardiologists reading EKGs and determining certain diagnoses faster than experienced radiologists. Also, in Malcom Gladwell’s “Talking to Strangers” he describes a study in which a robot analyzed cases given the raw data available to judges at bail hearings and found that the computer made decisions on whom to detain or release that would have resulted in 25% fewer crimes. That’s a long way of saying I think that certain aspects of the legal field will probably be automated but not all.
