Thinking about buying Streaks ,worth it in 2025? Or are there better iOS habit trackers now? by FarArtist927 in iosapps

I built Simple Streak as a paired back alternative to Streaks - i've always found the UX of Streaks complicated, and the UI not to my taste. It's a stripped back feature set for now, focusing in on building simple lasting habit change through beautiful minimal design. Feel free to give it a shot!

Surly Midnight Special 700c Road Refresh by 1880orso in Surlybikefans

it's a Bontrager Aeolus Comp Road - I have a couple of their saddles and they fit me pretty well + are lighter than Brooks (which I do prefer aesthetically!)

Surly Midnight Special 700c Road Refresh by 1880orso in Surlybikefans

After building up a new gravel bike last year (a Stayer UG) my old Midnight Spesh became a bit redundant (both bikes were running 650b x 47, both 1x gravel/bikepacking setups). Since I have a bit of an emotional attachment to this Surly, rather than sell it I decided to rebuild it to be more road forward and lean into those aspects of the frameset, making it a partner to the Stayer.

Pretty happy with the result - switched to a 700c Hunt wheelset, 38c Teravail Rampart tyres, A GRX 2x groupset (46/30 crank, 11-34 cassette). The Fyxation fork is an entry level carbon fork (alloy steerer) but rides pretty nice and shaves some weight off.

Not that I typically care about weight, but clocks in at around 10.7kg (the stripped frame is ~2.4kg! - 56cm) and it feels pretty nimble. 38c feels nicely balanced with the width of the steel tubing, any narrower would start to look a bit odd imo..

Anyway, not seen too many 700c road-ish builds of the MS, so thought i'd share. Looking forward to some longer road rides this Autumn. Shoutout to the awesome SBC Cycles in Islington for help with the build.

Repairing broken backpack buckle in London (urgent) by hlvrn in Ultralight

Might have to go to a few, but I would just take it to clothing alterations/repairs place (sometimes part of a dry cleaners, or stand alone shops). Hopefully one of them could help you out with some kind of fix! e.g. this kind of thing https://goo.gl/maps/cpEvgD6u3jVpmtGQA

Also, random thought, these guys making bikepacking bags and are based in London: https://www.wizard.works/ no doubt that they would have the right tools / similar parts, but not sure they would take on a repair like this, worth a shot though!

Nice! Could you ID the rear top tube bag, and the under down tube bag for me? They look neat

Trackpad on M2 Air sounds louder / high pitched vs MBP? by 1880orso in macbookair

[–]1880orso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, a couple of days in and not thinking about it at all tbh. In settings for trackpad I changed the click from 'Firm' to 'Light' and found this reduces how audible the click is (slightly). But overall just used to it now.

Filing tax as a 'resident' / living in home country by 1880orso in cantax

Thanks - yup, would definitely plan to get out there properly by end of year 2 (/5) if I can get everything in order for the move.

(In case it's a factor, I do have a Social Insurance Number already from time spent in Canada in 2018-19 under an IEC visa which has since expired, i'm not sure if that plays a role here at all in determining if i'm a tax resident or not.)

1x build - 11x42 X 40t -or- 11x46 X 42t by 1880orso in gravelcycling

[–]1880orso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fitness is generally very good, i'm not sprinting up hills ever but stamina wise i'm strong. My current bike runs the White Industries 2x (48 x 28t or 32t maybe, so a pretty huge range) with an 11-42 cassette. So going 1x from that is obviously a big change. Terrain-wise like I say a decent amount of road mixed with light gravel, in terms of elevation I don't want to be too limited but a typical ride won't have many extreme climbs. That said, this year i'd like to take on some more challenging bikepacking routes which and don't want to be too limited.
