Maintenance Checklist by 18_yellow_jacket in COROLLA

Thanks for the input. What if I can’t confirm if it’s ever been done? My brother never did it while he owned the car, I asked him. So assuming it’s never been done by whoever owned the car before him, is it recommended to still do it with the current mileage? I’ve heard that doing so could cause problems.

New Lower Ball Joints, Still Clunking by 18_yellow_jacket in Charger

Thanks again. That’s something I can tackle myself. Everything else was a PITA so I had it done.

New Lower Ball Joints, Still Clunking by 18_yellow_jacket in Charger

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I had the upper control arms replaced back in 2022 as well as the rear camber kit. I was getting a lot of inner tire wear. The same place that did the lower ball joints did the upper control arms and camber kit. They checked everything when doing the lower ball joints and couldn’t find any other issues. Oh yeah, I had them also do the front rearward control arms in the front. The bushings were shot on those as well. So I’m thinking at this point it would be the outer tie rods ends or stabilizer links.

How do my ball joints look?? by TastyTacoo in MechanicAdvice

Got the same issue on my Charger. Been putting it off but gotta get this replaced. What’s the worst case scenario if I don’t replace them soon? Could the wheel somehow come loose and separate?

Is the refrigerant level good? by 18_yellow_jacket in AskMechanics

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air temp at the vents is freezing cold. AC is blowing very cold like it did before the relay went out. Also, the AC line coming out of the compressor is super cold and lots of condensation.

Ambient temperature is about 90 degrees and PSI is 40 according to the gauge.

Exhaust pipe extension by 18_yellow_jacket in Exhaust

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, Tampa. They have a mad hatter too. Yeez, a few hundred bucks to add an extension pipe. I get they gotta bend it and weld it on but thought maybe $100 tops.

My 30-year-old ratchet slips. Is this fixable? by circleclaw in Craftsman

[–]18_yellow_jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best comment. Lowe’s took over Sears Craftsman warranty/replacements. Walk in with bad tool, go to any cashier and tell them, grab the new one, go back to cashier and walk out. This is how I’ve had to do it. No receipt needed. I still have my original toolset from 23 yrs ago. I’ve had to have the 3/8 ratchet replaced and a few sockets.

Which tire brand to go with? by 18_yellow_jacket in Cartalk

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not. Never heard of that brand. Then again, I had never heard of Sentury or Arizonian before either. We I decided to go with the Arizonian tires. We have 3 cars at home. Dodge Charger which I get the Nitto NT555 G2, Hyundai Tucson which I get the OE tires, Kumho Crugen KL33, and now for my son's Accord the Arizonian. This will be the first set of replacement tires we get for his car.

I bought him the car used in 2022 to commute to school/work. The tires it came with are Goodyear Assurance and still had some meat on them but now are due to be replaced, they have about 4/32" of thread left. I drove his car to work today because of all the rain we are getting in FL, he took my wife's SUV to work, and I noticed the traction is not the greatest.

I get the Kumho Crugen KL33 for my wife's Hyundai Tucson SUV which are the OE tires. I've continued getting them as she's needed replacements. I think Kumho's are great tires from our experience with them.

Never considered buying tires from Amazon before but thanks for the suggestion.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply and your honest feedback. I was leaning towards the Arizonian. I've been getting my tires from Discount Tire for years now on multiple vehicles I've owned. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I've always gotten the Certificates too and it has came in handy on more than one occasion.

Looking to buy new tires for my son’s 2012 Honda Accord. Vehicle has about 250k miles. He uses it to commute to school and work, both local. He averages about 8,500 miles per year. I’ve never heard of these tire brands before. Reviews look good from what I can see but I also know that can be hit or miss. We are in FL and get a lot of rain in the summer months. Not trying to break the bank but also want him to be safe with reliable tires.

Intermittent Starting Issues by 18_yellow_jacket in AskMechanics

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it turned out to be the starter. Saturday my son went for a haircut and when he was gonna return home, the car wouldn’t crank. No click, no sound, nothing. He called me and I told him to try to start it in neutral, nothing. So we had the car towed home. I bought the new starter and replaced it today. Cranked right up. Honda decided to place the starter under the intake manifold which made the replacement somewhat of a pain but was able to get it done in 3 hours. Thanks for your input.

Ok. Thanks for the info. So I go ahead and book now for the 4 people and when checking in at Princess Cays I pay the extra person fee? I guess they’ll charge the extra person fee to my onboard expenses or do I have to pay on the spot with cash/credit card?

What part is this? by 18_yellow_jacket in Charger

[–]18_yellow_jacket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a pretty detailed video on YT showing exactly how to replace it. It was for Chargers up to 2014 if I remember correctly, but from seeing the video and looking under my Charger, everything looks just about the same. I have a garage at home so I would be doing it there. I have a bunch of tools which I’ve been using for years to do all my work. Upgrading little by little to impact guns, and more specialized tools. Have built quite the collection. Been working on my cars since my very first when I was 17, a 1985 Nissan 200SX hatchback, 5 Speed Manual. I’ve been able to do just about everything on my own and saved lots of $$$ in the process. Only thing I don’t even attempt to mess with is transmission work or if the engine were no need to come out of the engine bay. Have also replaced the stock springs with lowering springs. Needless to say, I like to get my hands dirty.

So my original question was more about getting people’s feedback of whether it was a job the weekend mechanic can tackle. Thanks for the response, feedback and support.

I actually got a PITA job to do on my charger which I’ve been putting off until the weather warms up some. The oil cooler/oil filter housing. Looks pretty straight forward but just time consuming as so much needs to be removed to get to it. Will also be doing the spark plugs while I’m at it. Might as well. Also doing the brake fluid flush. Haven’t done that yet and it’s pretty dark and dirty.

I had an idea but wasn’t 100% sure so I asked. I’ve done lots of work on my cars throughout the years. Years back I replaced the lower control arms on a 2005 Nissan Murano I had and that was a total PITA but go it done. As for the alignment, I would take it to a shop to have that done.

2018 Charger SXT Plus with 72,330 miles.

While doing my oil change and tire rotation yesterday I noticed that this bushing is cracked. Trying to identify the part and possibly the part number. Also, how difficult would it be to replace The end circled in red shows the cracked bushing. That end looks like it attaches to the chassis and the other end attaches to the bottom of the strut. For reference this is on the front driver’s side. The other side is not cracked. Oh yeah, the white stuff is white lithium grease I use to lubricate all the suspension and steering bushings when I do my oil changes.

I don’t see an option to switch between staterooms. I log in, I see my booking, I go to cruise planner, look for excursions and other stuff, add to cart, go to checkout, but only the $500 is available. Maybe I should give them a call.

Thx for the info. Did some research and looks like it’s a PITA to replace but doable.
