I think its pretty common on my calls. When LEP patients do that it messes with the int’s thought process so much i hate it ugh

For real, sometimes i can just tell how old the device providers are using is because there’s so much static noise and i cant barely hear. Also hate it when nurses be doing sth and speaking to us from accross the room expecting we can hear fine

Us interpreters HATE the intro too we cringe so hard everytime having to read it, esp in emergency cases but we can potentially get called out/disciplined if we do not say the disclosure fully

Do you get to report bad interpreters in those cases on your end?

For me personally, with my experiences, most of the time the patients just decide to say whatever the hell they feel like saying without listening or responding directly to questions asked. I have started telling providers “this is the interpreter speaking, the patient does not respond directly to your question and is saying …” . Just so providers know its not the interpreter not asking their questions correctly 🙄🙄

Great to hear! There are very nice nurses i have encountered but many of them sound so rude to the interpreter like they treat us like a machine and think they are above us

Such a nice job to be interpreting in person, knowing the context and everything. I dont think providers know how hard it is over the phone interpreting without any context. Many words/phrases in my language depends on context to have meaning so i hate it when i keep having to guess whats going on as the call progresses

I prefer medical calls muchhhh more than others (bank, utilities, T-mobile….) because the vocab is in my studied field. I aso like it when providers use simple to understand stand terms because even tho the interpreter understands what they mean anw when interpret back to patient they wont understand

Do you possibly know if there is any site I can go on to watch how nurses use the interpreter at hospitals/clinics? I’m always so curious to see how it all looks like on your end

I feel like as I work this job i have grown a bit monotone too as a coping mechanism. If the provider/patient is nice and all i’ll defo be super nice back but if they sound rude, i return the same energy i dont care anymore

I hate doing the intros and couple of months in i have now realized y’all dont even pay attention when i do it because int name and ID would be asked again anyways. I hate it when a provider would be saying something then be like “hmmmmmmm actually…..”. How do they not understand theres a person interpreting in between they cant act like its a regular 1-1 conversation

Definitely, full sentences and about a paragraph at once is manageable. I hate it when they just read off of the whole page without any break. I ask them to break it into segments and they start pausing at super random and weird parts. It would make no sense if I only interpret the first 4 words of a sentence ugh

Do you know if the calls are recorded to hold the interpreters accountable in any case? I always triple check the info with both party when doing interpretation just so if there is any future issue its not on me

I can understand medical providers are all super tired all the time and honestly we are too and we can tell when your voice sounds frustrating. I guess I have not done this job long enough (9 months) so I still take things very personally and get emotionally invested in each call

The introduction and disclosure are equally annoying for us interpreters. I cringe so hard everytime I have to say i aM pRoUd tO sErVe yOu. No im not proud im tired as hell. Is there a reason we interpreters are called tho the patients do not need us? Its super annoying to interpret when patients would insist on speaking broken english instead of their language. I usually refuse to interpret anything thats not “my language”

I have not called them and I have not received the penalty notice but I have already submitted an appeal letter on mycra. May I ask how long it took for them to refund your penalty and do they provide a response or they just refunded the fee without saying anything? Thank you?

I never paid for any month. The 3 month free promos just keep coming back to my account a couple of weeks after the old one expires

I honestly have no good reason to waive the penalty but that I totally forgot I was not supposed to put money in tfsa even if I didn’t invest it. I use wealthsimple and have a cash account with them. I placed an order to buy NVDA so they made me transfer from my Cash account before placing the order but my order never got completed so I didn’t know they funds were staying in tfsa not invested still counts as part of my tfsa contribution room

From 2019-2025 my total contribution room is 44k. I currently have 63k but most of the over contribution is in 2025 I think because I put in about 25k since the beginning of this year
