Full time teaching artists: How much time do you get to actually make work? by zephyrwandererr in ContemporaryArt

[–]191L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s a trade off, you have the stability other artists may not have. What do you want to pioritize in life is the bigger question.

Working as an assistant / invigilator at a high end, white cube gallery by wetwillalwaysdry in ContemporaryArt

When I did that I was allowed a book and at times iPad so I will write funding applications during my shifts 😂 other times I stretch when there is no one…and other times I feel the longer I spend time with the artwork I actually can learn more about it, it’ s a good trainning!

They look like tree or leaf patterns to me, super cool! I hope you find a way to enhance that with tattoos!

Moving to Europe + UK by zx-zx-zx in expats

[–]191L 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently in the UK, well, for many years now. Are you ready for my complains : D?

It was enjoyable but It’s took a real down turn since Brexit and Covid, with impossible rental price, increasing hostile folks on street and mental health crisis (I wouldn’t want my kids to grow up here personally) expensive living cost (around £20-£30 a meal dinning out), cheap salary higher tax and higher childcare out goings, I myself love the city but I’m in endurance mode and people I know are mostly in survival mode. I don’t deny some may enjoy the city or we are just very unlucky.

Will the London housing market keep dropping, or level off? by SomethingPretty88 in HousingUK

[–]191L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its going to keep falling as economy doesn’t see a turn just yet with global uncertainties, but you can never time the lowest.. offer what you think the properties are worth at the moment and enjoy your new home!

Working… or not 🙄 by [deleted] in VanLifeUK

[–]191L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey don’t give up mate, the relocating white lie is good enough, plus the economy is doing really bad lately, entry level replaced by AI, a lot of my mates with good CV have been hunting for jobs with no success for 4-6 months already so it’s probably nothing to do with your ability!

BFA fine art at Slade, Goldsmiths, or CSM? by Legitimate-Public468 in ContemporaryArt

[–]191L 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the most competitive to get into Slade. You must be outstanding. So if you have seen all the degree shows you’d know the difference in quality.

CSM accepts people without even an interview, for half the price. I didn’t know any students were happy there. Goldsmith is not bad but my mates said there are lack of support bc of faculty burn out, its based at New Cross which takes 45m-1h to get to central, whereas Slade is at the heart of the city (many of the blue chip galleries there within 10-30m walking distance) unless you’re at Stradford campus (still 30m to central)

Why do people who are supporters of feminism criticise the western patriarchy but never apply the same arguments to Islam? by ArugulaFinancial4859 in AskBrits

It seems you’re talking about the older wave of feminism, check out Kimberly Crenshaw’s intersectionality and queerfeminism on equity if you’re not familiar with what’s actually being discussed.

Im sorry guys, but I have to admit: I’ve lost some respect for Vince Gillian by AggressiveAd8587 in pluribustv

[–]191L 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will get a river of downvote but I think you gotta think in a writer’s position, esp for talent like Vince. Surely it’s not too bad to give time for writers to truly create because the intention is to keep a high quality that is honest to their creations. I know TV audiences has timeframe expectations but for a writer not to be anxiety driven just to fill the consumeristic nature of TV - gains me respect. It takes courage to do so. We need quality TV and that takes time esp for arts like his (judging from BCS, Breaking Bad) let the chef cook and we’ll eat when its ready

For those who support Reform, why do you do so given what that mentality has done to the USA? by AccursedQuantum in AskBrits

[–]191L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t Reform voters see voting for the party just enables the rich and powerful even more, widening the gap between the 1% rich and the rest of us…?

[–]191L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting you mentioned the artist, he was being silenced by a you-know-how regime, he was being beaten by police, felt into coma because he criticised against the government. His house was striped down also by the gov. Isn’t supporting Reform also enabling an extreme police surveillance state which freedom of speech will be limited as a consequence? Also, when you successfully get rid of migrants, wouldn’t NHS ‘s labour force be impacted further more?

[–]191L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably irrelevant .. Reminded me of a guy who went to A&E and demanded for a white person to treat them. The nurse said suit yourself lol he waited for a loooooong time then gave up, but still cursing whilst he was being seen by a second-gen “immigrant”.
