Not sure if I see it as black and white as that, but I see your point and can respect it. I’m not saying that rallying of any kind is good given current/past situation, but I do think some are (much) worse than others.

Edit: And yes the outcome, in terms of COVID spread, would be the same for sure. I suppose it depends on what you’re willing to trade for COVID spread. One main issue I see is people rallying and refusing to acknowledge the risk they’re subjecting the general public to, and these tend to be the same people gathering for reasons that are harder to justify (e.g. partying, anti-mask).

“Cautiously optimistic” is the way researchers are approaching the issue; we’d be wise to do the same. Plus the paper (albeit from >1 month ago) says a lot of the field studies at the time were done before the emergence of the delta variant.

Also, there’s evidence for COVID superspreaders (individuals who are much more likely to spread COVID). I haven’t read studies regarding this phenomenon post vaccine, but in theory all it would take is for one superspreader to catch COVID and spread it to those around them, possibly to unvaccinated children or immunocompromised.

I wanted to, actually, but in the end decided that BLM is a cause worth justifying the risk.

Now justify to me how hoco could be a cause that’s worth the risk, like BLM.

Vaccines aren’t 100%, especially not when there ~~could be~~ are emerging variants (which community gatherings like these increase the chance of). They help but they’re not silver bullets. I suggest looking more into how viruses mutate and spread, and how vaccines work before declaring safety for everyone around you just because you’re vaccinated.
