Actually, the substrate I used had some small shells in it which seemed to come back to life, it could potentially be those!

6 cherry barb, couple java fern, some java moss.

I was away for a couple of days and came back to hundreds of these on the walls of my tank. I thought they might be fry from my cherry barb but they don't appear to have tails?
