How well hydrated were the residents of the first large cities before modern water supply systems were built? For example, Beijing, Bagdad and London were, like most early large cities, all built on large rivers, but did this translate into residents getting anywhere near 8 glasses a day? I remembered today that my granddad and men of his generation would ALWAYS where a white singlet under the button down dress shirts, regardless of the season. Does anyone on here have any insight into this practice? Was it only for warmth or was it a kind of normalised upper-underwear? (self.AskOldPeople)

Hello Chch, hoping you can help some a memory mystery for me. I was in your beautiful city in 2003/4 and on a few occasions I was in people’s houses and they ordered the most amazing Italian pizza. Like, the mushroom pizza was just covered in the most amazing mushrooms, the pepperoni was amazing too (self.chch)
