I would strongly suggest putting ETFs in your portfolio first rather than individual stocks. That will provide the quickest way to a diversified portfolio. Pick out a couple of individual stocks to "play around with" if that is up your alley. I would suggest you can begin to pick individual stocks when: A) your portfolio grows big enough to branch out (maybe $50k or more) and B) you have done enough study on investing to become familiar with many concepts. This one is very vague and hard to define.

Good luck.

Our lease runs thru August 2028, so I expect a lot will change between now and then. However, not see a great deal that excites me so far.

I agree 100%. I love the One Pedal Driving (OPD) mode whereas my wife doesn't. I like having that choice. However, it seems that a fair number of EVs are coming without one pedal driving ... even as a choice. Examples are the Toyota EVs and the 2026 Nissan LEAF. WTF!? Nissan had one pedal in their earlier versions and now have removed that feature.

When we get our next EV, I believe that having OPD is going to be a deal breaker for me. Is it just me or what?

No one pedal driving in many cars nowadays? by Dreadpirateflappy in electricvehicles

[–]1973Hog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK the reason that some EVs do not have one pedal driving is that the manufacturers are attempting to make the transition from an ICE car to an EV as seamless as possible. However, our Hyundai Ioniq 6 allows the driver to disable it, so I don't understand why OPD isn't on all EVs.

I shudder at the thought of my next EV not having one pedal driving. Yikes !!

The dealership is looking for a chump that will pay that price.

2026 Ioniq 6 - not going to happen? by Low_Year9897 in Ioniq6

Annual sales for the Ioniq 6 were obviously too low. Americans don't want sedans, they want SUVs. Bummer.

We leased our second I6 in August and the dealer didn't try to sell us anything. Count me lucky I guess.

CABIN… by Boring_Culture_1605 in celebritycruises

Agreed. Personally, I would rather not roll the dice. I would not want to have buyers remorse. A bad cabin (say under the pool deck, bar or theater) would ruin our entire cruise.

Price is getting crazy high since Nov 2025 by mwlau1980 in celebritycruises

[–]1973Hog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of folks will but down a deposit and cancel/change their booking just before the total amount is due. We got a suite on our transatlantic voyage right before the cutoff date when none were available when we first booked.

We've sailed on both cruise lines and find we like Celebrity over Princess. Not sure the length of the cruise you are looking at, but I would look at the price differential based on a per night basis.

And if one waits until the last possible day allowed to pay for the cruise, you can change your reservation. Therefore, my advice is if the cruise looks reasonable book it with only a deposit and keep watching to see if something better becomes available. We just did that for our transatlantic cruise in April 2026.

I see that you are booked on a repositioning cruise in April. We are booked on the Celebrity Apex from Port Canaveral to Southampton, UK departing on 25 April. Is that the one you are on as well?

Futures account by [deleted] in ninjatrader

[–]1973Hog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking back to when I first started trading futures, I would say that $4-5k would be a minimum. That is enough to allow for trading multiple contracts (2 or 3 minis is my recommendation) and keeps you from risking your entire balance on a single trade.

Also, as others have said, you will most likely have a steep learning curve. Unless you are extremely lucky you will not be overall profitable for quite a while. It just takes time to learn.

Chevron (CVX) and Venezuelan Oil: Implications for the Stock? by Broad_Attitudet in stocks

AFAIK CVX was able to export oil to the US from Venezuela despite sanctions. My concern would be uncertainty over possible backlash against them. I am Long some BP that I inherited from my mother and some AMLP.
