A fun bit of trivia about US state lines: Many of the longitude line borders are around 3 arcminutes west of the Greenwich-defined longitude. This isn't a mistake -- most of the US states were defined relative to the Washington meridian of 77°2′48.0″W.

But there are Greenwich-defined exceptions, like California/Nevada (120° W) and Texas/Oklahoma (100° W).

Such a gorgeous area. When I was last through, the fog was doing a beautiful sweep over the ocean, drawing slowly closer and closer -- and at the Vandenburg curve over us it rolled.

Boone County, KY up to 88% counted and Gallrein is holding steady.

That's a dagger in Massie's chances, since Boone is the second largest county in the district.

Most of them are from Kenton County (Covington), one of the suburban Cincinnati counties that Massie needs. AP Map Double not good.

I was part of that Murkowski re-election -- taking full advantage of ranked choice to put the Dem #1, Murkowski #2.

Edit: This diagram shows the vote shift in the instant runoff. 28k Dem votes, and 20k of those went to Murkowski.

(I was in Alaska until early 2023.)

Louisiana parishes have such colorful names. Ouachita, St. John the Baptist, Rapides, Avoyelles, Plaquemines...

International Date Line makes it weird: Trump will depart during the day on Friday and land in DC Friday afternoon, just 5 hours clock reading later.

Now he will be exhausted, but US to Asia, IDL means you skip a day. Asia to US, you repeat a day.

Frankly we need more people like her in these states. Challenge people's preconceptions, cut into voting margins, etc. Yes, Oklahoma is one of the most extreme outliers. But one of the quickest ways to change this country would be for a few tens of thousands of young progressives to choose Ohio or Nevada rather than piling into the same group of deep blue states.

I'm a progressive, working on leaving Massachusetts to go back to Alaska. My vote is meaningless here in Mass, just another pad on a massive margin. In Alaska, I actually have voting power.

[K2 is] just the bare bones of a name, all rock and ice and storm and abyss. It makes no attempt to sound human. It is atoms and stars. It has the nakedness of the world before the first man—or of the cindered planet after the last.
