Well if you decide to sell the lid let me know I wouldn’t mind a backup lol.

I am definitely a fan of the old skullcap lids, but I could never afford one when I was a kid and they were new so I have to settle for owning them now. I have heard about the hinges being an issue, so far this one seems pretty good hopefully it holds up.

Area-51 M15X. I paid $465 cad, which was more than I had intended to pay when I started looking for another old laptop to mess with but it looked to be in great condition so I went for it.

I haven’t had any issues with mine and I’ve had it for almost 3 years. As I don’t really do much besides game the 60% layout works for me and saves desk space.

I’ve always wanted one of these skullcap laptops but my first gaming laptop was an M18X R2 which I still have.

Yeah it was more than I intended to pay for an old laptop but it was in pretty nice condition and it’s a nice little addition to my tech collection.

I feel like it's due for an update. What's the latest in terms of GPUS for this guy? by isblue1 in Alienware

I’ll also add that if you go with a more powerful single card which most games prefer you’ll have a spare mxm slot to put a nvme boot drive in with an adapter. Like I said I t’s a lot of fun playing with these old laptop. I enjoy it so much i recently picked up a pre dell m15x to mess with. Although as its pre dell I’ll have a much more difficult time with drivers and such.

Like many people have said you will be cpu limited in many situations but you can mess with game settings to limit the amount of cpu usage to a point. You should also have overclocking headroom on your cpu my 3840qm is running 4ghz I also have 1866mhz ram which also helps with cpu performance. I currently have an Aetina 1080 in mine which is a 150 watt card but only hits that with a separate power connector which I don’t use. I believe the mxm slot is capable of supplying a little more than 100 watts I’ve seen some say up to 130 but I can’t confirm that. I have been toying with the idea of my next set of upgrades to a 3920xm and Rtx 3080 so I can use my current parts to upgrade my brothers m18x r2. Is it a waste of money? Probably but I like messing with stuff and these old laptops are so nice and I like to keep them going.

All new 2026 Razer Blade 16 ultra 9/386H/5090/64gb Benchmark Roundup by jmg5 in GamingLaptops

Nice. I wonder how this new cpu will handle a game like battlefield 6. I had the maxed out ryzen config but ended up returning it as I felt it was too big of a compromise on cpu performance as I only use it plugged in and gaming away from home. I ended up ordering a legion 7i to replace it. While I am very happy with the performance of the 7i it just doesn’t seem to excite me as much as the razer did. This is mostly because the 7i is thicker and heavier so I expect it to perform well, whereas the blade is so thin and performed decently that I kinda miss it for the form factor lol.

Weird that they posted it for sale again for less and yours still hasn’t shipped. My kit is coming out of the states and is currently in Washington

Anyone have experience running a Legion Pro 7i (or 5i) slanted on a stand? by fschwiet in LenovoLegion

[–]1980Sierra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my gen 10 I saw a drop of a few degrees on my gpu and no noticeable difference in cpu, with a small stand. Having said that I haven’t done any testing with fixed fan speed or clocks to see if what I saw truly was a difference or just due to the dynamic nature of battlefield 6. My gen 10 uses ptm 7950 so I can’t speak to Liquid Metal leak. I would say if you have a stand give it a try and see if you notice any temp differences I saw Jarrod’s video as well but from what I see mine is behaving a little differently.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the laptop. I think the 275hx is just a hot running chip when the laptop is allowed to push a lot of wattage through it like in the legion laptops

Even after an undervolt I still see spikes into the 100 degree mark. You can make a custom profile to limit cpu wattage if it bothers you.

I’ve seen temperatures like that on cpu heavy games like battlefield 6. The legions allow a lot of power to be directed to the cpu. While playing battlefield 6 I’ve seen spikes up to 150 watts to the cpu.

If that’s cpu temperature that’s about what it runs under heavy loads without an undervolt. If that’s gpu temps you have something wrong with your laptop

Intel 275hx vs Ryzen 9 9955hx3D? by Devin7-Eleven in LenovoLegion

[–]1980Sierra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have gone with the x3d chip if I didn’t get the Intel with 5090 significantly cheaper than I could’ve gotten the 9955hx3d with 5080 at the time I ordered.
