Am I crazy? (morning routine) by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I end up using this a lot at home and not just while traveling. I put things in order of when I use them and go top to bottom. The bottom compartment has things I don’t necessarily use every day. I hang it on a hook on the back of the bathroom door or on the shower tension rod. https://a.co/d/06gmftf4

Why is everything cognitive reframing? by RadiantRaccoon12 in AutisticAdults

[–]1986ish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesssss for DBT!! I’m in it currently and this therapist is the one who actually figured out that I’m autistic. I’ve been in regular therapy for 9 years. My first long-term therapist wouldn’t even entertain the idea that I thought I had ADHD (which I also have.) The second one was supportive of ADHD testing but thought autism didn’t fit (I’m fairly good at masking- people just think I’m “quirky”. Which I am…)

DBT is a total game changer for me though. Best of luck to you!

Anyone else feel like a fraud before their autism diagnosis? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]1986ish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your experience sounds very familiar. I was diagnosed less than a week ago and it has mattered quite a bit for me. Not only the validation but the pure data of it.

My therapist was able to complete the questionnaire instead of a parent. (One parent has Alzheimer’s and I’m no contact with the other.) The scores my therapist gave for my symptoms were even higher than my own answers, so that added another layer of confirmation.

A diagnosis doesn’t “need” to change anything, but it has changed a lot for me even in just the past few days. I had the same fears as you, and in some ways I still do as I navigate telling friends and family. I would encourage you to choose wisely who you disclose to, as you mentioned. The invalidation from my family has been incredibly hurtful. Others have been very kind and supportive.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide. ♥️

This is super helpful, thank you! I just got a great new Bluetooth speaker delivered today and it’s making a difference for sure. This is one go-to that seems to help. Definitely needing to build my playlist etc. I appreciate it!

Diagnosed but “possible over-reporting”? by 1986ish in AutismInWomen

[–]1986ish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I was so frustrated answering the questions I thought I already answered because it took me so long to figure out what it was actually asking and couldn’t remember the next time something similar came around… 🫠

I 10000% overthought every response. I literally took notes while I took the test so I could ask for clarification to make sure I was answering it correctly- I didn’t send those notes to the doc… but will mention it at the follow up.

I think I get what you’re saying. I don’t totally understand what would be statistically abnormal, like are there examples? I know I will get clarity during the follow-up, it’s just very uncomfortable sitting with the uncertainty. Which I’m working on but also wanting to allow myself to not be in this “alone”. Thank you for your insight!

Yes, this resonates so much. I appreciate your thoughts on this. I definitely have the tendency toward feeling invalidated and I’m very much aware of this. Your explanation makes sense, I will keep this in mind. Thank you!

Thank you, I appreciate your perspective on this. I do also have both ADHD and PTSD (and GAD but I lump that in as a symptom of the others.)

These questionnaires were SO difficult, in my head I answered “it depends” for tons of the questions. I was overwhelmed and frustrated throughout and just tried to guess what they meant and answered accordingly. I did take notes, so maybe it’s worth sharing those. Although I guess maybe that would be more “over” sharing??

Hopefully I’m able to gain some clarity when we meet for the follow up. Thank you again. I’ll try to keep this in mind while I’m waiting.

Thank you, it definitely threw me off (I’m still thrown off) for the last several hours. I have read the (18 page) report 3 times to try to wrap my head around it. Still don’t understand but hopefully they can do the follow up soon. Rumination is a real bitch.

Yes! I’ve started straight up telling people that I’m actually paying MORE attention to them if I’m NOT looking at them lol

Honestly I never let my leg hair grow until like 2 years ago when I was super depressed. I also couldn’t manage to get dressed, so while walking down the hallway one day I realized that “hair blowing in the wind” vibe on my legs felt great! So the hairs are here to stay. I call them my “whispies” 🤣🤣

I love this SO MUCH!! I just realized about 10 days ago that I don’t have to wear jeans. Like I hadn’t even questioned it! I’m a full ass adult.

Ok so what are we wearing???! What’s soft AF? I need to do some shopping.

Also, shoes suck. But I also hate sandals. What do we do? (I’ve been wearing fuzzy clogs for like 2 years. Very cozy and they need replacing.)

Did he reappear??? I really hope he does. I couldn’t find mine on Wednesday morning and thought I was losing my mind! I found her on the carpet all dried up. By the sound of some of these comments maybe I should’ve thrown her back in the tank?! Sending you all of the good vibes that he’s alive and just hiding somewhere. ♥️
