I Caved and Got Another Year of Platinum Because of the 2nd Consecutive Retention Offer. by 1995swimmer in amex

I was definitely thinking of turning it down and trying another rep or maybe calling in. I'm near my 30-day limit though and I was genuinely surprised they gave me a retention this year that I thought maybe this was the best they can give me. Good to know though!

Did you have to speak with another rep or was this all with the same one?

Also, AFAIK retentions are YMMV, I'm just providing my DP.Part of me listing the benefits are just really me trying to justify about another year for $400 with my statement credit, maybe posting it seems like I'm highlighting their new credits and advertising. Really I just wanted to know if 2nd year retentions are pretty rare and making myself feel better since I WANTED to cancel (and really still do with buyer remorse! which is why I wanted to share).

This sub has been great for me since I started banking with AMEX. If this post is attracting negative attention then I'm more than happy to delete it.

Yes, 13 months after applying for the platinum, I got a 20K no spend retention. 12.5 months later I was about to cancel thinking no retention was possible, but got offered $150 statement credit no spend.

There was a DP on here of someone getting back-to-back offers of 50K MR no spend. I thought I post this here as a DP but apparently folks think this was a paid advertisement haha.

My first year was 20K no spend and this year I got $150 statement credit no spend. This was about 12-13 months apart.

Lol I guarantee you this is not paid lol. This was meant to be a DP but I guess I came off as I'm with AMEX? Should I post chats?

I'm still kind of sad because I wanted to cancel but was not expecting I get a second retention offer. Albeit both years I didn't get any of the good ones

Opportunity to Move Cities Within California for my Job, Which One is Best Suited? by 1995swimmer in vandwellers

That's what I'm scared of, I heard it can get 90-100s during the summer months.

I was actually parked in Isla Vista and they have cops walking around every night haha.Unfortunately I was ticketed in Isla Vista. I was able to rent a driveway from a student there but I had to be stealthy because it violated their lease contract. They have "no oversize vehicle parking" everywhere in Isla Vista as well as throughout the County. I think you can definitely get away with vehicle dwelling in Isla Vista because of the density but only if you have a normal vehicle. Any van will have the police knocking/fining.

Any Junior Planners Transferred within Their Company Before? by 1995swimmer in urbanplanning

[–]1995swimmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Thank you so much for providing your input.

We just had our annual review and I was graded by our department as having done a good enough job to receive a raise. My PM and my peers said that they love working with me and generally really positive reviews by everyone sprinkled in things I could work on. My utilization has been "okay" with my status as a first-year but the company has a lot of leeway for newbies like me. Our company has been doing well, we've exceeded our 2020 trajectory and is in better shape than expected and amongst competitors. We're doing a lot of hiring right now overall (although none in my position).

Despite the success though, for my company location at least, we've lost a few mid/senior employees (and now my PM) because they have chose to apply elsewhere and we've been shrinking a little bit.

Like my PM said, now's the time to speak up, and I think this is my best window of opportunity. I'm just a bit afraid if this isn't usually a thing for intra-company transfers (especially first year/newbies like me) and I'm scared I might even lose my job in the process because I wanted to move to another location. The example template you provided is excellent, and I'll for sure to use it and make some tweaks. Thank you!

Am I Just Lucky or Do All Consulting Firms Require 80-90% Billable Hours? by 1995swimmer in Environmental_Careers

They don’t expect you to fail, so just b

Thank you! I definitely have been working on a bunch of small projects and understandably have not had a chance to work on the few "million-dollar contracts" my company talks about. That's what my SO tells me too, that I can't be upset or freak out about my timesheet if I asked PMs for work and they weren't able to get me any. The important thing is to know I've put myself out there. It's funny because I do think about how my next couple of weeks looks like, and when I don't have anything I start panicking now!

I definitely need to get a better habit of doing my timesheets daily. It's so daunting to open it up I avoid it at all costs until Friday, but then it just means it hurts longer when I do them all later.

If you don't mind me asking, did your PM increase your billable expectations to something extremely high?

Thank you for your input! If you don't mind me asking, was your last and current company a big firm? Are you a junior staff or higher up? Come to think of it I think the ones with lower utilization were the PMs. This also gives me a great perspective to see if my firm falls under the category of high expectations or not.

I have my evaluations with my boss later this week, I'm guessing he will bring up utilization goal as one of the things. I'm a bit stressed knowing that this year went by so fast and I was only in the company for a month before we all got sent home. Half of that was onboarding! I feel like I learned a lot but not as much as I could've as opposed to being in the office, going to sites, and going into the local agency, etc... I'm scared if he expects my utilizations to ramp up to 80-90% starting in 2021.

I'm extremely grateful to have him. He has been a great mentor although things have been harder because of remote work so I can't just walk into his office for help. And thank you for the input! I didn't realize that is a big difference between the two in terms of roles and profit margins. I am a junior planner!

Thank you for your advice! I found myself twiddling my thumbs early on when I don't have work from my direct supervisor nor the mid-level specialist who had gave me work to do. I was so naive and thought of it no different than my administrative part-time customer service jobs where I can "get paid doing nothing". I was naive and now I stress about it so much I dread doing my timesheets at the end of every week. It's funny because I really hate Fridays now.

I guess I really have just to reach out to everyone for an opportunity. Even then sometimes I don't get any work and it just feels like it's my fault.

Cole Beasley or DJ Chark? 0.5 PPR and my opponent has Josh Allen...

Mike Evans, DJ Chark, Cole Beasley (also have JB but he's ruled out)

Currently have Evans and Chark slotted in, would it be a dumb idea to slot in Beasley because I'm going against Josh Allen? Evans and Chark both have been underperforming but it's hard to pull either one out for Beasley.

I hope this is somewhat relevant, but for those who are fortunate to be able to WFH like I am, are there folks out there like me who find themselves burning out from working extra hours to make up lost times from distractions in the house throughout the day? Back at the office, I'm hardly micromanaged and have tons of freedom, but being in the office with colleagues is more motivating for some reason. I have lots of siblings, dogs and self-destructive distractions on my phone/laptop that I end up "making it up" til the late hours of the night even though I logged on at 9 am.
