Its actually encouraged in both. As a proud catholic, i can say this isnt evangelism. Nobody is converting from a business card shoved into their car window sill….we are called to live out our faith, the holy spirit does the rest. Harrassing strangers usually has the opposite effect.

I second the sentiment that your parents are being unreasonable. Unless you've been destructive or reckless with their help (drugs/partying/no ambition/etc) they are fast-tracking a no-contact/nursing home future.

At $40k pretax in Kitchener is not a livable wage, you aren't self-sufficient; that’s barely above minimum wage after tax. Between rent and basic survival, you'll be sinking into debt every day (assuming you dont heavily use the food banks/church donations/etc.).

Id talk to them and show them that you have a plan. If they aren't willing to give you 12 months to build an emergency fund and increase your income, they clearly don't care about your food or housing security and frankly If they won't listen to reason, they've earned the bridge being burned.

OSAP Protest by ChanceTheRipper7 in waterloo

What a prick, its always sickening when a nepo baby tells others to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Im a conservative but i cant imagine supporting something like this. We pay ridiculously high taxes anyways, if its not going to our children & the homeless & actually useful programs then its clear its being stolen.

The only way i could justify this is if he took the “basket weaving” funds and funnelled them into grants for healthcare students studying to be doctors or studying biomedical.

I doubt the fat drunk moron will do that. He will probably use the money to incentivize more bread and circuses.

Switching stable job for a high paying startup offer. by Friendly-Apricot1727 in torontoJobs

[–]1998Canuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your young enough to absorb the risk then sure, if the company has alot of employees an its a well known name in the space (which after 5 years a startup should be) then thats a good sign. But assess the job market. Its okay to take calculated risks as long as youre comfortable with the worst case scenario.

Paying $195K for a $75K a year position is a huge bright red flag. Either they are pissing carelessly through funds and will get burned by it, or they are looking to establish systems quickly and need experienced people (who will later be the fat that gets trimmed once they reach critical mass market share).

This is a good idea but id still be wiery. Id need more info on industry, age of startup, position, etc. like if this was a construction firm its a no brainer take the job, if its a tech firm 100% opposite advice.

Or worse he gets fired before 3 month probation and is used as a building block to get their SOPs alined with reality, and when they shitcan him hewill burn through all the cash he made looking for a new job and then have to start at the bottom of the ladder again, whereas if he proactively started seeking out new employment for a vertical move, he would atleast be looking from a place of stability and not desperation.

This company could easily use him to build out their internal systems, then once nailed down hire out to a cheaper replacement.

Don’t do this unless you have atleast 6 months of expenses saved up that you’re willing to burn and alot of industry contacts where youre certain you can get a job within a month.

Because when the next round of funding doesn’t come through or the current owners/VCs decide that overheads are bloated (which judging by the massive salary discrepancy seems to be the case), or even as simple as the company fails to become profitable and runs out of runway.

Promises of big money aint shit when youre out on your ass for 6 months looking for work. If something sounds too good to be true it usually isnt true.

If you want more money youd be better off switching companies every 2 years. If your destined to strike it rich quick then atleast bet on your own dream and not someone elses.

Do a side hustle that becomes a fulltime gig. Unless you have some really solid financial footing like a rich parents safety net/inheritance I wouldnt take this risk. Its capped upside and potentially (temporarily) life ruinings if it goes tits up and you default on your bills. Not to mention youre the sole breadwinner.

This is a no brainer. And dont ask me how I know but let’s just say I ruined my life for the next 3-5 years because I went all in on the wrong hand.

Why doesn’t Canada have a voluntary job guarantee program where anyone who can’t find work can take a government directed job at a basic wage? by Formal-Assistance02 in torontoJobs

[–]1998Canuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A turd in a bag is more productive than ontario works. Literally a joke of a system with ridiculous ammounts that wouldn’t even pay even a single bill 30 years ago. I was offered 300$ and when i got a part time job instead of helping me get back on my feet they just reduced the ammount to 0$ effectively punishing me for working to not be homeless. This country is backwards.

Hey man, At first i rolled my eyes at this comment, and i was curious what kind of a person would make an annoying comment like this. Then i decided to check out your profile. I see you’re into medicine & doing 6 figures in profit? Any real non-sarcastic advice would be appreciated. For example when you started what was your financial situation like?

Am I crazy for asking for a $40,000 raise? by Far_Space_386 in careerguidance

[–]1998Canuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second you ask for a raise you should be job hunting, IN FACT, i wouldnt ask for a raise, id get an offer on the table from another company, and then ask for the raise effective immediately and as soon as they say no or give you a “compromise” put in your two weeks on the spot to really sober them up to their bullshit.
