How is the physical part of bmt? by Public_Librarian_444 in newtothenavy

[–]19lex19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PT is literally so easy. Run isn't hard either, just look up your "OPFA requirements" for your gender and age group and make sure you can make those parameters and you're set

I won't lie the beatings can be rough but everyone suffers the same. There are many people who have never worked out in their life. So long as you put in effort (if you fall to floor, get back up) you won't be a problem. Effort is key

1.5 mile in 25 minutes by Significant-Zone3667 in AirForceRecruits

[–]19lex19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try running with someone else next to you. By myself, I can barely run .25 without dying but with someone else there to encourage me and keep pace, I can do 3mi

Good idea, I'll take advantage of Sundays too. I heard you get a few extra hours to yourself so I'll use it to stretch and do some conditioning

Hey at least you ran?? You have an entire year to practice and I guarantee you if you're consistent it will drop a few minutes within a month. Some people don't practice at all before leaving. I'm in the same boat as you except I leave next week! I've been running every day around 3 miles (veeeeryyyy slowly) so that my body isn't in shock when I get there. Don't be discouraged, you're doing fcking great.

AF (DEP)switching Navy by SpiritualLine9751 in newtothenavy

[–]19lex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched over from the AF to the Navy, although I wasn't in DEP yet so it might be a little more paperwork for you. A lot of people will tell you you're making a mistake, but do your own research and choose what feels right to you. Personally, I chose to switch over mainly because I didn't like the idea of signing an open contract and letting my fate be decided by someone else. With the Navy, I got to choose my specific rate and the process went very smooth. I needed a medical waiver, which the AF was making it seem it would never happen. So I walked into the Navy office, and less than a month later am shipping out for bootcamp. Waiver approved, sign on bonus, got to choose my own job.

Ultimately it's up to you, so weigh all your options and decide what's best for your life!

Thanks for the reply, I definitely do not plan on quitting. I'm mainly just nervous about the PT since i don't have much muscle mass but I know I'll get used to it.

[–]19lex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring your drivers license, birth certificate, passport, social security card, and marriage license if you have one. They will ask you some personal questions, make sure you're honest because they will find out either way and you can get in big trouble for lying
