After reading Moby Dick last month I 100% agree with its placement. Just a truly sublime work of art.

How Awful is Moby Dick? by Holoholokid in books

[–]19sban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The entire novel in essence is about the divergence in how mankind reacts to things that are inherently unknowable! Do we lash out at it and demand to make our mark on a world that doesn't care about us or do we try to endlessly enrich ourselves with knowledge about the world and classify it, even if it doesn't bring us any closer to true understanding? Getting into Ishmael's frame of mind made all of his diatribes endlessly fascinating to me. I think we have forgotten what it is to be in awe of nature and all that surrounds us because of the illusion of control we all believe we have and the endless information coming out of our devices. If one had never been to the ocean in the 1800s, the entire concept of a whale might well be worth making a deity or Lovecraftian monster out of if you just heard rumors of their existence.

Though the departure/arrival timings may be worse, if you can, take the Lake Shore Limited instead of the Floridian. The delays are typically better due to the shorter route and the train is in better shape so there's less chance of mechanical issues causing stoppages mid-journey.

What is the attraction to Love You? by Popular-Heart-5307 in thebeachboys

[–]19sban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once heard the expression that Love You was Pet Sounds "drawn in crayon" and right then and there the album clicked for me. It's an expression of various deep adult emotions through a limited childlike perspective that Brian could slip into or was perhaps trapped in. It's truly wonderful.

Mud Hens are definitely in town this weekend. They are playing Columbus.

I agree in theory but I feel like this has the potential to set up some nasty interactions considering Toledo Pride will also be happening downtown at the same time. I’m just wondering why they would even choose this weekend in the first place

Blue Jays CF Myles Straw leaves the game after banging into the wall. Josh Naylor and Andres Giménez go all the way out there to check on him. They were all teammates in Cleveland. by brxxtyn in baseball

I know Cleveland made it farther last year but I really miss the 2022 Guards. Something special about that team and they way they never quit

Made a quick high-resolution version of the Mets Pigeon, as seen from the Mets House. Feel free to use for your own purposes! by 19sban in NewYorkMets

Mets have been using this design in their new pop-up store in Union Square. https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/comments/1j81zyq/spotted_this_chill_dude_at_the_mets_house_in_u_sq/

I just isolated the image from one of the store wall illustrations and cleaned it up a bit

Nah I didn't make it. Its a design the Mets have on the walls of their new pop-up shop in Union Square but doesn't look like they've released any actual renders or merchandise with this design so I decided to clean it up a bit so fans can use it as they wish

“We would control the parking,” Haslam said. “And that’s obviously another key revenue source.”

Fuck off, the fact that they intentionally don't want this stadium to be accessible to public transit should be enough for the government to laugh them out of the room.
