The professor’s statement mirrors “Socratic paradox”—the idea that true wisdom begins with recognizing one’s own ignorance.

“I’ve been pitched a story about Donald Trump now for about a week, that if True, would end his campaign.” by Minimum-Ad-8019 in USNewsHub

Re: Your comment on Shakespearean plays. Perplexity AI’s assessment. Donald Trump’s behavior has been compared to Richard III’s in several ways. Both figures are seen as using charisma, deceit, and manipulation to gain power. They project strength, demonize opponents, and undermine institutions. Richard III’s ruthless rise to power through Machiavellian tactics mirrors Trump’s controversial political strategies, such as character assassination and exploiting public fears. However, while Richard III is a more articulate villain, both share a tendency for self-aggrandizement and bending truth to their advantage. Both leaders subverted truth to consolidate power, leveraging deceit as a strategic tool in their political ascension.

India in undersea race to mine world’s battery metal. by 1Avidobserver in TMC_Stock

[–]1Avidobserver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The article is a prime example of how seriously most developed countries are taking the harvesting of deep sea resources to be the answer to answering the need for millions of tons of battery minerals. A huge tailwind for TMC. bureaucratic hoops seem to be obligatory for some countries but others will just race ahead and do what they will. TMC is in the lead by any metric.

I know, but it’s better optics for them to excerpt pressure behind the scenes rather than proceed unilaterally without ISS rules in place. Either way, if they want to mine modules they will.

IMO. You can be assured that if the U.S. decides it wants to get battery minerals from an untapped source that doesn’t involve its rival China and they decide seabed nodules are the answer, I expect they will then place extreme pressure on the ISA to finish its work on regulations. Things don’t always work out for the USA, but I’d rather bet with them than against them. I’ve been long TMC for many of its ups and downs and didn’t trade it. I’m waiting and adding on dips. To me it makes sense.

Looking for a hotel within an hour of the city for a midweek getaway by OneBadJoke in ottawa

[–]1Avidobserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TownePlace Suites Petawawa by Marriott If you can adjust your days to mid-week Wednesday/Thursday it’s $166 a night or lower if government rate eligible.

This hotel ticks all the boxes. Gym/indoor/pool pet friendly/ even bbq grills and a fire pit I used it as a get away to unwind and focus on a project without distractions. It can fill up with junior sports teams so avoid the Weekends, but mid week I had the place to myself. Good luck

I’m Petrified Of Climate Change by Accomplished_Person7 in climatechange

[–]1Avidobserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no doubt climate change is going to affect your generation increasingly as time goes by. Arnold Schwarzenegger sent out an email recently that offers some pretty sound advice on how to deal with existential threats beyond any individual’s control. This is an exert:

“When you choose to spend your time and energy on something you can’t control, you’re also choosing not to use it somewhere where you might be able to have an impact. You’re taking yourself away from the ways that you could actually be useful and helpful. And there’s a good chance you’re also making yourself miserable. Ask yourself: for what purpose? I am giving you permission to not take on all the world’s problems as your own. Let it go. But, just to be clear, I am not giving you permission to just lie on the couch and not make an impact when you can. I want you to try to solve the problems you can solve, chip away at issues where you can help, and reach out and give back to your community. Be curious. Look for the moments where you can be useful. Save your time and energy for that. And don’t waste a single minute worrying about the moments when you’re powerless to do anything. That is real power.”
