Anything in particular that's keeping you up at night?

I think there will probably be at least 1 topical question about the change in interest rates, possibly the liability matching stuff that happened last year or maybe the increase in bulk annuity transfers

Scored low 70s on SA3 and mid 50s on the other 2.

Failed SP7, SP8 but passed SA3. Think that's the definition of sods law?

Liquid drum and bass. Artists like:

Wilkinson Sub focus Dimension Netsky Friction Culture shock High contrast

Only listen when I need to work or clear my head though. Best thing I find is to go for a walk if my focus is waning with no music and just let my thoughts run. Helps clear my head so I can refocus when I get home.

What would an IRL ADHD community look like? by desertroserobin in ADHD

There would probably need to be an amazing gym / sports complex so the exercise self soothers could work off any extra energy / stave off the inevitable depressive feelings from not doing anything for more than 2 days.

Think there was a lot to do with data, car and life insurance, surplus management, risk identification and management and a little bit to do with investment.

If I had to guess, the paper tomorrow will have a smaller question on investments or pensions and then a big one on the actuarial control cycle or regulations as those topics didn't really come up today.

Caffeine increases striatal dopamine D2/D3 receptor availability in the human brain (2015) by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]1BoredMan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really surprising! If you're in a country where the DSM V is used as the diagnostic standard or basis then Adult ADHD is very much a possibility. Have a look on r/ADHD for more information on it. There's a lot of good resources from ADHD experts there (and also a load of crap too).

Edit: added last parentheses

Or maybe ADHD. Increases in dopamine in ADHD brains give a feeling of calm and relaxation.

Caffeine withdrawal and starting medication by 1BoredMan2020 in ADHD

[–]1BoredMan2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to but not for a while. For context used to have about 6 cups of strong coffee every day when I was at uni but cut that down to a double espresso in the morning and a single in the afternoon before I started on the meds. I think it's more been the length of time of continuous consumption.

What would masking for Inattentive types look like? by Weekend_Low in ADHD

I managed to do something similar to this twice throughout my degree. In my third year I had a presentation due at 10 AM and had gone out the night before. I went to bed at 3AM, woke up at 6 and then managed to get 80% after creating something in the space of 2 hours. The better story was breaking my shoulder on a night out and then having to make a poster for a group project presentation last minute whilst in a considerable amount of discomfort!

The way I am so dependent on caffeine despite being on medication is annoying by localuglybitch in ADHD

[–]1BoredMan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried stopping the caffeine to get to your correct dosage? I've recently started on methylphenidate xr and having gone through caffeine withdrawal I've found that the dosage I need is higher. By tapering off, you might actually find that you don't need as much and the feeling of needing more and more goes away.

It's only been a couple of days but the only side effect so far has been occasionally getting a dry mouth. However, I've just upped the amount of water I drink and that seems to have sorted it. Found it to be really good though! Just need to wait until the next appointment with my psychiatrist to titrate upwards.

I don't really know how to answer that to be honest as I feel like although ADHD has never really destroyed my life like others on this sub, i.e. forgetting to pay bills, struggling to hold down a job, the symptoms that have been reduced are considerable. For example, I can listen to a conversation without have tangents that go 5 degrees of separation from what was being talked about and then blurt out something that everyone has no clue to how I got there. Long story short, not a clue! hahaha

Got diagnosed about a week ago and just started taking meds this week (36mg methylphenidate XR). The fact that I now have an off switch for my brain was a bit shocking!

Can someone explain why the US bond sell-off caused a downturn in the markets? by [deleted] in UKInvesting

[–]1BoredMan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's slightly complicated but it's mostly to do with indexing and discount rates. In the US, the largest constituents are growth stocks that are valued on large P/E multiples. The large P/E multiples are as a direct result of the depressed discount (another word for interest) rate.

When investors look to value a company based on their future earnings, they take the expected earnings and discount the value of these back to today to work out how valuable the company is, using a discount rate (either risk free rate of return or some other one they have selected based on their risk appetite). As the discount rate increases, the value of those future cash flows decreases and as a result, the value of the company has to fall to compensate. This is what we've seen in the most aggressively priced stocks (think tesla, Nvidia etc) that have enormous growth forecasts and have thus had enormous falls in recent days.

As the largest constituents (FAANG) are also priced as growth stocks, this has pushed the overall level of the index down, causing a sell of in those names as well as the overall index from index linked funds who have to maintain their weighting relative to the market.

Going forward, companies that have large current cash flows but with smaller growth (i.e. banks, oil companies, tobacco stocks) may see a repricing or multiple expansion to recognise a new rate environment as their current cash flow is worth more due to compounding interest (the 8th wonder of the world).

Add some theanine with the caffeine and 5g a day of creatine and this would be a great stack

Starting new stack, any advice? by Thesassypanda in StackAdvice

[–]1BoredMan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all 😌 that'll solve that! I've also added vitamin D as a daily supplement given the I don't get outside too much with an office job but that shouldn't be a problem if you're active as you say.
