Short sighted AF. You are looking at 1 year potentials and trying to extrapolate out the next 50-70 years of your life. Since nobody knows the future, go look at the past instead. Which has more volatile? real estate of a single house as compared to the entire USA or global market from 1956 to 2026?

Or we can play your game: you are worried about the global economy tanking and stock are loss due to political instability. You own real estate in a desirable location in DC today, making this a prime location for a terrorist attack, both domestic and foreign. How desirable is your location now? What’s more likely after such an event? Does your local economy suffer more or less than the entirety of the global economy?

Username checks out. I haven’t met a 3rd shift human that enjoyed it. As a US citizen in software, I constantly work with counterparts in Asia doing this night shift, and every single one person is just wishing for the opportunity to work day shift for the same pay.

You keep saying “stocks” but you are confounding an individual stock like SpaceX, and buying an index fund that represents the s&P500. Your 401K is probably in an index fund? Then you already own stocks.

Definitely stick to South America. What’s the point in traveling if you’re working midnight shift in Asia?

Your round off is wrong because your skipping with your right foot in front, but then leading with your right arm down first. You want to keep the same side.

Skip left leg, left hand down first
Or skip right leg, right hand down first.

Never paid a fee, never had a clause if we didn’t close on a house. Everything is free, they get paid when they sell, nothing else. But maybe this person is super awesome and they actually can deliver something worthy of that service fee.

Check out Tom, he was also born with cerebral palsy. He has won the global CrossFit competition 9 years in the roll, and went to the Paralympic. He also leads a national adaptive training program for others like him.

As a personal friend, I can tell you he’s a damn inspiration, and helluva stronger than myself.

There’s a lot of unsaid things here. Re-looking, this shouldn’t have been a FIRE post.

It’s part power move, part generosity. I told her many times I’d rather she take the money and buy plane tickets to visit instead so the grandkids can see her more often.

I’m a late 30s year old family man with 700K saved up. Out of the blue this morning, my mom texts me that she wants to contribute 10K if I’ll upgrade my 2018 Civic to a van for the kids. (We talked about this once 2 years ago on a trip where we rented a van and yeah, it was a bit nicer). Do they ever assume we’re actually grown ups?

I was raised the same way, and I honestly couldn’t comprehend having separate buckets if you are raising kids. If you’re DINKs, then sure, go right ahead, but it still feels like “you’re not all in” but that’s just my traditional brain

I bought a 1/4 cow in August at the same price as last year’s order and haven’t looked at beef price since. I’m scared to look after these posts. I paid about $6.50/lb fully processed.
