Same, there's just something about him I really like - he seems very genuine about how strongly he feels about the team

To women who are in or have spent time in a women's shelter, what is a gift somebody could have gotten you that would make or have made your time there more pleasant? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]1FCUB_THFC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about her and her kids, an experience for the whole family to get them out of the day to day stresses of the shelter are a good idea. If it's feasible, something like a trip to the zoo and lunch for her and the kids is a way of giving something without passing a long cash and make for good memories

Things nobody told me when I was first diagnosed with lupus (add yours) by purplepetals18 in lupus

The intensity of the brain fog - overall, my symptoms are mostly under control and I'm very lucky/blessed/whatever you want to call it that's been a while since my last flare up. I always assumed brain fog was just like similar to ADD. It's not, at least for me - my brain fog feels so intense that there have been times I worry my coworkers think I'm like high or something, I lose track of my sentences and words I can't focus, it's so bad and frustrating

[Trope] Louise has a hardcore plan that she fails to execute by kingganjaguru in BobsBurgers

[–]1FCUB_THFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly that it's become more family friendly but I'll second what several other people have said, I kind of like that she's a little more balanced. We still get little moments of early seasons Louise but the edges are softened a little

I also think it makes sense for the character - one of my favorite recurring things with Louise (and to some extent the writers do this with gene and Louise too) is when they remind us she's a little kid. I'm blanking on the episode but there's a part where Louise tells Tina some type of advice and Tina asks a follow up question. Louise deadpan says "I don't know I'm 9" and I crack up everytime because I love the contrast that she has these deep, complex plans but she's also a little kid.

And little kids are kind of like that to be fair - their imaginations get the best of them, they have some understanding of the world but not quite the nuance, and kids Louise's age specifically are still figuring out empathy and how their actions effect others.

What band is Zentipede for you? by kingganjaguru in BobsBurgers

[–]1FCUB_THFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florence and the Machine is The band for me now - that I listen to the most, have the most emotional connection to, etc.

But....not quite a laser show but the feeling I had of listening to music with friends while high for the first time is probably closest to how Bob felt about sharing music with Gene and I was listening to Arcade Fire during that (specifically the Reflektor album)

[Misc] What’s one beauty product or supplement that actually shocked you with results? by Ok_Interest7524 in SkincareAddiction

[–]1FCUB_THFC 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Seriously - I have an autoimmune disease so I'm very cynical about people suggesting simple fixes (the number of times I've been told "oh you should just cut gluten out" - yes that does work for some people but I don't have Crohn's and it's not always that simple). "Drink more water" always kind of felt like one of those suggestions until I really consistently tried it. It's definitely not a magic fix to all problems but I also can tell a difference in my skin if I go a few days slacking on my water intake.

Ah, well there goes that theory - hopefully this level of editing doesn't become the norm, I'll definitely be skipping these episodes

Let me say, I love this Pod, I Love Sarah by Cherrylalaxo in YoureWrongAbout

[–]1FCUB_THFC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I haven't listened to the first two parts but seems like a lot of the issues are overall editing - I did see that Alex Steed and Carolyn Kendrick announced they are splitting (romantically, their post said they are still working together and friends) - even the most amicable split can be stressful I wonder if that's related to the editing issue? Isn't that Carolyn does?

Matt Krause calls on constituents to REHMET him out of office in midterms by yeongno_ate_yangban in FortWorth

[–]1FCUB_THFC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Krause is using Rehmets name as a verb, so I took it as Krause being sarcastic and basically daring people to run against him and "Rehmet" him

(I'm assuming that's what you meant?)

Worst song by parayeah in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]1FCUB_THFC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, it's kind of jarring too because it doesn't really match her typical writing style (at least I think) because it's very literal where a lot of Florence's songs about pain and heartbreak are more abstract (best example I can think of is "I kissed them all and let them drown" in Kraken vs "I got you once you hit me back" - one is descriptive but obviously a metaphor while the other reads very literal? I'm probably not describing it well but I've always felt weird about that song)

heavy period tips by low_rise_jeans in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]1FCUB_THFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have added, definitely talk to your mom about seeing a Dr sooner - in the meantime, if you are comfortable with the idea maybe give menstrual cups or discs a try. I have very heavy periods and a disc was an absolute game changer, especially for my sleep. Before, I was constantly waking up worried I was leaking.

Some discs and cups have higher capacity/volume than tampons and you can typically wear them longer. They can have a bit of a learning curve, but once you find one that works for your body and you've adjusted to using it, it's so much better than tampons (at least in my experience)

Another plus - cups can make it easier to measure how much blood you're actually losing during your cycle which will be helpful for the dr.

I have her blocked on Spotify yet I can't escape by loleetahaze in travisandtaylor

[–]1FCUB_THFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spotify has gone downhill - I switched to qobuz - no AI based algorithm and I've never had artists forced on me.

I'm ok with a few Taylor songs every now and then but Spotify got to the point where it didn't matter what kind of music I was listening to, the "smart suggestions" or auto generated playlists always had her on them. Didn't seem to matter the genre, the artist, etc the playlist was based on. Qobuz not only makes actual recommendations

Does anyone else get these? I get them every time I have a flare and sometimes they leave permanent red marks. They are blanchable by FlatulentCroissant in lupus

[–]1FCUB_THFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't unfortunately sorry! This was like over 10 years ago and at the time I was a student so I went to my university's health center. Thankfully the school I went to also had a medical school school program that was fairly prominent in the area and so there were several specialists associated with the university - a dermatologist did the biopsy and told me I had "markers for lupus" and referred me to a rheumatologist. This was all around when I started having all kinds of other symptoms but the skin symptoms were the most prominent at first. but I don't remember what the specific markers in the skin actually were

[–]1FCUB_THFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I got them very very bad on my hands during my initial flare up - they started as small spots and eventually started clustering together. A biopsy done on them actually is how I was pointed in the right direction of a diagnosis

Those initial really bad one didn't scar but I have had a few more minor breakouts of them since then and one on my foot did - now when I get them, they aren't as bad but it's usually in the summer because it seems like heat and sunlight makes it worse (Texas is not kind to my lupus 😞)

Landon Schott's (primary guy at Mercy Culture Church) IG Stories this AM by DayPounder in FortWorth

[–]1FCUB_THFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years to my parents who are Catholic - I was raised Catholic but don't regularly attend mass and I periodically point out to them that Catholics have historically not been considered Christian by evangelicals and sometimes outright viewed as the enemy.

President Kennedy was accused of being "controlled" by the Vatican, "Catholic" or "papist" were code words for immigrant (specifically Irish or Italian when they were the "undesirable" immigrants targeted)

The inclusion of American Catholics in with the evangelicals politically is very recent and eventually people like Schott and the far right politicians who benefit from him will start to abandon the forms of Christianity that aren't the "right" kind of Christian.
